Job Title:
Yard Material Handler 1st shift 6am-2:30pm M-F - $20-25/hr DOE Job Description The Yard Material Handler safely operates an enclosed sit-down industrial forklift to move lumber and other building materials throughout a busy lumber yard. This role follows work orders to pick up, transport, and stage materials ranging from standard lengths to very long loads, while coordinating closely with other operators and production workers to keep orders and inventory flowing efficiently through the facility. Responsibilities Operate an enclosed sit-down industrial forklift capable of lifting up to 10,000 pounds in a safe and efficient manner. Pick up, move, and stage lumber and building materials according to detailed work orders. Handle wood, lumber, and building materials ranging from 20 to 80 feet in length, ensuring loads are secure and stable. Work closely with other forklift operators and production workers to move materials and customer orders around the yard and facility. Follow work orders and material handling system instructions to ensure accurate picking, loading, and placement of inventory. Assist with unloading and loading building materials as needed to support yard operations. Maintain awareness of yard conditions, traffic, and safety procedures while operating equipment outdoors year-round. Support inventory accuracy by handling materials carefully and placing them in designated locations. Essential Skills Proven experience operating industrial or heavy forklifts, preferably in a high-volume yard or similar environment. Experience in lumber yard or large material handling operations. Ability to read, understand, and follow work orders and material handling system instructions. Strong material handling skills, including picking, unloading, and staging building materials. Comfort working with long and heavy loads, including lumber and building materials up to 80 feet in length. Commitment to safe forklift operation and adherence to yard safety procedures. Work Environment This is a full-time position with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Work takes place outdoors year-round in a lumber yard, operating from an enclosed forklift cab equipped with heating and air conditioning for comfort in varying weather conditions. The environment involves moving large and heavy building materials, coordinating with yard and production teams, and working safely around other equipment and vehicles. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Oak Grove, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
