Founded in 1972 by migrant farmworkers, Centro serves as a hub for Latino culture, economic empowerment, policy advocacy and civic engagement, supportive housing and stabilization, comprehensive food security services, community health and wellness, senior programming; and
K-12 STEAM
education for youth. Our programs and services remove barriers to health, well-being, and economic mobility to achieve prosperity and self-determination.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Centro Cultural's Youth Development Program Coordinator is part of the Youth Development team and is responsible for leading and coordinating after school youth programs. This position leads Centro's FIRST Robotics programs for students in grades 1st-8th, coordinates the Ballet Folklórico dance program, supports summer programming, and assists with general Youth Development program operations. The Youth Development Program Coordinator facilitates engaging learning experiences for youth, manages program logistics and communication, supports volunteers and community partnerships, and helps ensure programs operate successfully and safely. The ideal candidate has experience working with youth, strong organizational and communication skills, and a passion for creating positive and inclusive learning environments.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Robotics Program Instructor (September - May) Lead and instruct Centro's FIRST Robotics programs, including
FIRST LEGO
League Explore (grades 1-4) and
FIRST LEGO
League Challenge (grades 5-8) Design and facilitate engaging, hands on robotics lessons and team activities that build students' STEAM, problem solving, and collaboration skills Coach and mentor student robotics teams while supporting and guiding program volunteers Manage classroom activities, student behavior, and team participation to create a positive and inclusive learning environment Coordinate team practices, meetings, competitions, and related program logistics Manage program materials, supplies, student applications, attendance, and fee tracking Build and maintain partnerships with local technology organizations to support coaching, volunteering, presentations, and other program activities Organize educational field trips and coordinate industry partner visits and experiences Communicate program information with students and families, respond to questions, and ensure participants have the information needed to fully engage in program activities Plan and facilitate family engagement activities that connect parents and caregivers to student learning and program participation Ballet Folklorico Program Coordinator (Year Round) Coordinate weekly practices, performances, and related program logistics Recruit and retain student participants to support consistent year round enrollment and engagement Collaborate with the dance instructor to communicate practice schedules, performances, and program expectations to families Schedule practices and performances and coordinate related program logistics Procure program supplies and materials as needed Track student applications, attendance, and fee collection Summer Program Coordinator (June-August) Coordinate educational field trips and visits with community and industry partners Assist with curriculum development, hiring, and training for seasonal program staff Support day to day summer program operations, logistics, and student supervision Enforce program policies, procedures, and safety expectations Maintain program supplies and equipment, including purchasing, repairs, organization, and inventory management Family Engagement Serve as a liaison between Centro's Education Department and participating families Foster youth, family, and community engagement in STEAM learning and career exploration Connect families with information, resources, and support services that help address barriers to participation and educational success Support and participate in family nights, parent education workshops, community events, and other engagement activities that strengthen family involvement in student learning Program Impact & Evaluation Track participant attendance, engagement, and learning outcomes across programs Collect and analyze program data, including youth surveys, participation metrics, and feedback, to support continuous program improvement Support grant reporting requirements by documenting program activities, successes, outcomes, and challenges Education Team Support Support broader Youth Development and Education initiatives and organizational programming Assist with grant deliverables, data collection, and reporting responsibilities Participate in organizational events, outreach efforts, and initiatives that advance Centro Cultural's mission On-site presence required 4 days per week at the discretion of the supervisor. The ideal candidate has the following skills and experiences or their equivalent, demonstrating ability to perform position responsibilities: A passionate commitment to the goals and mission of Centro Cultural Bachelor's degree in education or a related field Strong leadership and facilitation skills, with experience designing and implementing youth programs. Ability to build partnerships with local organizations, schools, and community leaders. Project management and organizational skills, including experience coordinating events, scheduling activities, and managing program logistics. Strong communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Familiarity with data collection and reporting for program evaluation and grant compliance. Requirements Minimum 1 year experience working with youth from diverse cultural backgrounds, particularly Latino youth Bilingual English-Spanish Required Complete and pass a Background Check Possess current driver's license and auto insurance coverage Ability to travel out of town to attend workshops or trainings Regular evening and weekend work
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is approximately 80% in an office environment and 20% in community locations. Office working conditions are standard for an office environment. Community locations will vary, but will include schools, employer worksites, and outdoor locations for STEAM activities. The position interacts with a variety of individuals from diverse communities and backgrounds. Students may be emotional and exhibit stressful behavior at times. Position may require frequent visits to school sites within the Washington County region. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will: Engage in regular communication in person as well as through electronic means Routinely use computer laptops, tablets, desk phones, photocopiers and monitors, including digital screens Ability to sit and stand for long periods Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds.
