Job Description

Summary We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an After School Program Assistant at Columbia Union School. This part-time position is ideal for someone who is passionate about working with children and supporting their educational and social development. The After School Program Assistant will help create a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for students, ensuring they have a positive experience as they participate in various activities after school. Responsibilities Assist in the planning and implementation of after school activities, including homework help, recreational games, arts and crafts, and educational programs. Supervise students during activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging teamwork, respect, and good behavior. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding program activities and student progress. Assist in maintaining a clean and organized program space, including setting up and cleaning up after activities. Monitor student attendance and participation, reporting any concerns to the program coordinator. Collaborate with other staff members to promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere in the after school program. Participate in training and professional development opportunities as required. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in education, child development, or a related field is preferred. Previous experience working with children in a school or recreational setting is highly desirable. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to a positive workplace culture. Patience, creativity, and a passion for helping children learn and grow. Availability to work after school hours, typically from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on weekdays (few positions available with more hours) First Aid and CPR certification is a plus; willingness to obtain certification if not currently held. Background check required prior to employment.
