Job Description

The Senior CNC Machinist produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). Work from Engineering prints, solid models, specifications, test procedures, schematics, travelers, and verbal instruction. Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs. Develop and construct templates and fixtures. Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to applicable quality, engineering and GD&T standards. Use all cranes, hoists, lifting and safety equipment according to safety requirements and industry best practices. Review, understand, and complete all required documentation that accompanies work assignments (including travelers/data packages). Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Possess a dedicated work ethic to expedite all assigned tasks through the department within the guidelines of the Quality Policy and Quality Procedures. Broad knowledge of many machines. Very versatile skillset for many different applications. Able to produce near-perfect parts/assemblies from start-to-finish. Fully autonomous and can direct lower-level apprentices as needed. Maintain a clean, organized work environment through weekly and daily 5-S activities. Perform assigned jobs efficiently, with minimal errors and high-quality workmanship. Communicates defects, issues, and concerns with supervisor; seeks guidance/instruction as needed. Works individually or as a team; willing to cross-train as necessary. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
10-15 years' CNC machining experience. 10-15 years' experience in an aerospace metal contract manufacturing environment (preferably for US Government Prime contractors). 10-15 years' GD&T experience. Experience in fixture design and machining of complex, close tolerance aerospace components. Ability to read/interpret complex blueprints, layouts, drawings, and instructions. Must be able to adapt to various working conditions. Microsoft office applications. High School or GED Diploma required
Preferred:
Experience with AS9100 and
ISO 9001
are desirable. Knowledge of Geometric Tolerances, (ANSI-Y 14.5) drawing interpretation and shop math. Advanced math and geometry skills. Vocational training is a plus
Skills and Abilities:
Must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, all essential functions of the job. Excellent customer service skills. Must be able to communicate in the English language.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 50lbs., moving between buildings with work orders, product, etc. multiple times a day. Overtime as required to meet customer and project goals.
