05/14/2026 Job Summary Provide advising services to students to promote personal growth, academic and career planning, and decision making. This position will advise and support career and technical programming at the Perry VanKirk Academy and dual credit courses at the Perry area high schools. Essential Functions Advise students in all phases of academic and career planning, including program and course information, scheduling, registration, transfer requirements, articulations with other educational institutions and graduation requirements. Advise, coordinate and refer students with specific learning needs regarding the identification and utilization of support services to assist in student success. May also assist with educational achievement plans. Assist students in identifying goals, developing career pathways, and providing career guidance in order to achieve successful transitions to post-secondary, training and/or employment. Work closely with admissions department staff to monitor program capacity, assist in student admissions, and monitor student progress. Conduct recruitment, orientation and retention activities for traditional and non-traditional students, visit high schools and business/industry, attend college fairs, schedule and conduct campus tours, and serve as a resource in the development of promotional materials to recruit and retain students. Advise student organizations and assist with student activities which could include graduation, athletics, Phi Theta Kappa, student activities council, etc. Participate and assist in special or ongoing events and assignments such as serving as multicultural liaison, community outreach work, maintaining various student services websites in cooperation with the webmaster, distribution of articulation agreements, maintaining Career & Transfer Resource Center, etc. Serve on campus and/or district-wide committees. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Two years of advising, recruitment, promotions, admissions or related experience in an educational setting (Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, Academic Advising, or related field can substitute for one year of experience). Knowledge of current college educational and student services procedures and practices. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to prepare and deliver public presentations. Ability to plan, organize and manage time. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with a wide variety of individuals coming from varied backgrounds. Knowledge of current software applications. Desired Qualifications Master's degree. Postsecondary education at a community college. Knowledge of DMACC educational and student services procedures and practices. Work experience with an educational institution. Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
