Job Description
Dallas County Conservation is seeking an adaptable and skilled professional to manage outreach and communications and support administrative and customer service functions. Covering everything from social media and promotions to reservations, volunteers, and office operations. This part-time position (32 hours per week) is based at our Administrative Offices at Forest Park Museum in Perry, IA. Work will be Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours for special events. Coordinates efforts to deliver information about Dallas County Conservation Board (DCCB) programs and services to the general public. Prepares and/or coordinates press releases, programing announcements, media interviews, email news updates, newsletters and other forms of communication. Edits and promotes articles written by other department staff, when requested Coordinates the department's social media communications; updates and manages social media accounts; monitors social media sites for questions and information from the public and prepares responses when necessary Writes and/or proofs grant applications. Coordinates the department's volunteer program; maintains volunteer database and works with staff for suggesting volunteers for specific projects Develops and delivers promotional and marketing presentations at public meetings and events. Assists in processing user fees; receives and processes facility use reservations. Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance. Maintains office supply inventory and reorders as needed; and orders shop supplies when requested. Provides support to the Administrative Coordinator as needed. Works with staff regarding employee uniform orders, inventory and allotment. Physically spend time in the Dallas County Parks on a regular basis as assigned to update information and become familiar with public demands, requests and needs. Cover department events, activities, and programs as part of the department's public relations efforts. Operate a motor vehicle and operate a department motor vehicle as assigned. Performs related duties.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma, or equivalent. One to three years progressive work experience in Outdoor Recreation, Forestry, History, or Marketing. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Iowa driver's license. This may include, but is not limited to, a Class D Chauffeur Driver's License (15 passenger van). Basic First Aid and CPR certification.KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Knowledge of public information principles and practices. Knowledge of website and social media management principles. Knowledge of grant writing and fundraising. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge of customer service principles and practices. Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Publisher, QR Coding, Meta Business Suite, Canva, and other software for preparing information. Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in the preparation of a variety of written materials, including newsletters, appeals letters, grant applications, and social media content. Skill in the maintenance of files and records. Skill in the provision of customer services. Skill in the use of such office equipment as a computer, scanner, fax machine, and copier. Skill in oral and written communication.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects. The work is typically performed in an office. Work may be performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
