Academic Coach/Professional Tutor

  • RISE Program (Regular Part-Time
  • Grant Funded) position. Hours will vary Monday
  • Friday; 8 a.
m to 5 p.m. throughout the week based on student needs. The start for this position is August 2026. The Academic Coach/Professional Tutor actively supports RISE program students by fostering academic skills, social-emotional growth, campus navigation, and independent learning habits, while collaborating closely with program staff to monitor student progress and address concerns. This position models professional behavior, maintains a positive and inclusive learning environment, and contributes to a culture of access and student success.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide coaching, academic tutoring, and support in both individual and small-group formats. Assist students in developing academic survival skills, time-management, organization, and goal-setting strategies. Support students in identifying their academic strengths, areas for improvement, and progress toward individualized learning goals. Provide positive reinforcement, motivation, and confidence-building strategies to promote student growth, self-advocacy, and independence. Maintain accurate records of academic coaching notes, tutoring sessions, and student progress reports. Refer academic and personal concerns to appropriate college personnel (coordinator, counselor, faculty member, etc.). Assist students in connecting with campus resources (counseling, disability services, advising, financial aid, etc.). Support workshops and structured learning sessions for RISE students as needed. Maintain a professional and welcoming learning environment that promotes student success and inclusion. Provide weekly one-on-one academic coaching to assigned RISE students Support students in developing academic, vocational, social, and independent living skills consistent with their individualized goals. Monitor student progress toward program goals and communicate regularly with the Coordinator/RISE. Help students strengthen social-emotional and campus-navigation skills within the college environment. Provide assistance in a structured study lounge setting. Report concerns related to student safety, access, or academic progress. Assist the Coordinator/RISE with implementing summer activities for middle and high school student with intellectual disabilities. Provide individual and group support to incoming first year RISE students during the summer bridge program. Provide support to RISE students at the Youngwood campus and by traveling to the College education centers as needed. Ensure confidentiality and comply with laws and college policies related to student records and privacy.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Participate in departmental meetings and program trainings, committees, work groups/teams, and professional organizations. Participate in professional development and cross-training related to coaching, tutoring, and student support. Perform additional duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products required. Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) required. Proficient verbal and written communications. Ability to consistently provide excellent customer service. Ability to respond professionally to unpredictability. Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments, including managing multiple projects/tasks concurrently and meet varied deadlines. Meticulous recordkeeping skills. Ability to identify problems, make corrective recommendations and assist with the problem-solving process.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
Associate degree in a related field required.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver's license required.
CLEARANCES
The successful candidate will be required to obtain/provide the following clearances prior to hire: PA Child History clearance PA Criminal Record Check clearance FBI Federal Criminal History Record clearance

Work is primarily conducted in a typical indoor office environment with appropriate lighting, noises, and temperature control. HAZARDS Minimal risk of injury or work-related illnesses.
