Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, where your expertise in billing and customer service will make a meaningful impact. This full-time, day-shift role focuses on managing patient financial accounts, providing clear communication, and supporting patients through their billing inquiries. General Summary The Accounts Billing Officer (SBO) Specialist is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service and financial counseling related to patient balances, including hospital and physician billing. This role involves handling inbound and outbound calls to address patient questions and resolve outstanding balances. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Serve as the primary contact for patient inquiries regarding coinsurance, copays, deductibles, and contractual adjustments. Resolve patient complaints related to billing and clarify insurance coverage details. Contact guarantors about past due balances and process payments securely. Offer payment options such as monthly plans and bank loan financing, utilizing secure banking portals. Screen patients for financial assistance and manage applications for aid with outstanding balances. Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines when handling patient information. Differentiates billing issues from patient care concerns, escalating the latter appropriately. Reconcile business banking and credit card accounts accurately. Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional training in healthcare billing or customer service is preferred. Experience Previous experience in medical billing is highly desirable. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with billing software and electronic data submission are advantageous. Certification/License Relevant certifications or licenses in billing or healthcare administration are a plus. Mental/Physical Requirements Strong communication skills, visual acuity, and the ability to comprehend written instructions are essential. The role requires normal mental concentration for repetitive tasks and the physical ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, and occasionally lift items up to 10 pounds. Working Conditions Standard office environment with occasional exposure to noise, fumes, chemicals, and other hazards.
