Description :
The Department Business Administrator (DBA) manages and administers business, financial and non-academic operations of a moderately complex department or for multiple departments including budget planning, financial oversight and monitoring; human resources business processes, staff, and faculty affairs. The DBA provides functional supervision of coordinators and serves as the liaison for Senior Leadership, directors, faculty and staff with other university departments and offices.
Duties:
Manages budgets, including managing and supporting annual budget preparations; monitoring and advising department budgets and accounts; preparing budgetary and personnel reports, analyses and projections. Monitors all budgets in the department(s) including fee revenue, income operations and external programs. Oversees and approves all HR business processes for the department(s) which includes but is not limited to human resources and payroll, and position budget management. Reviews and approves the reconciliation of accounting records with university reports/financial statements and prepares recurring financial/budget reports for internal purposes. Provides functional and direct supervision of financial and business operations staff. Manages the procurement operations and contract administration for the department(s). Monitors all budgets in the college including fee revenue, income operations and external programs. Serves as a resource to the Associate/Assistant VPs, department heads, etc. and provides liaison to university as well as to external units and performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field. Minimum five years of directly related job experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field. Previous work-related experience in a higher education institution.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks concurrently. Strong proficiency in financial software, spreadsheets, communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail. Knowledge of budgeting principles, accounting procedures, and financial reporting. Ability to work within a team-oriented environment and adapt to changing institutional priorities. Strong verbal and written communication for interdepartmental coordination. Ability to identify issues and implement solutions regarding operational inefficiencies or student/staff needs. Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), project management tools, and database management. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and leaders at all levels throughout the University.
