We are seeking someone who is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable having difficult but respectful conversations with members. This position plays an important role in helping members navigate financial challenges while protecting the credit union and managing delinquent accounts in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. What You'll Do As our Collections Specialist, you will manage and follow up on delinquent loans and overdrawn accounts while working with members to identify solutions and establish appropriate payment arrangements.
Responsibilities include:
Contact members regarding delinquent loans and overdrawn accounts by phone, letter, and other approved communication methods. Counsel members regarding past-due obligations and work with them to identify appropriate solutions. Maintain clear, accurate, and timely account notes documenting all member contact, attempted contact, payment arrangements, promises to pay, and collection activity. Monitor delinquency reports and ensure accounts receive appropriate and timely follow-up. Assist with loan modifications and obtain required documentation from members. Coordinate repossessions, including working with repossession agents and third-party vendors. Perform collateral evaluations and assist with the liquidation or auction of repossessed collateral. Manage deficiency balances and assign appropriate accounts to third-party collection agencies. Handle bankruptcy accounts and communicate with attorneys regarding bankruptcy-related matters. Assist with charge-offs, reserves, and other collection-related processes. Prepare monthly reporting related to delinquency, bankruptcies, charge-offs, repossessions, modified loans, and other collection activity. Work collaboratively with Lending, Operations, Finance, and other departments. Maintain confidentiality and ensure collection activity complies with credit union policies and applicable laws and regulations. The underlying job description specifically includes delinquency monitoring, member counseling, loan modifications, skip tracing, repossessions, collateral evaluation, bankruptcy administration, attorney follow-up, charge-offs, and monthly reporting. Knowledge of credit union or financial institution lending and deposit operations is a plus. Education & Experience Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. At least one year of experience in an office environment. Valid driver's license.
Preferred:
