This role focuses on general third-party collections, including negotiating payment arrangements, resolving disputes, and maintaining accurate documentation. The position also includes light dispute investigation support, such as reviewing itemizations, calling clients and formatting response letters. You will work within the legal framework of Washington, Oregon, California, and Idaho, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Regulation F, Washington Collection Agency Act (CAA), Rosenthal Act (CA), and other applicable consumer protection statutes. Your primary goal is to recover outstanding debts while maintaining professionalism, compliance, confidentiality, and excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
Debt Recovery:
Contact consumers via phone, email, and written correspondence to recover outstanding debts and establish payment arrangements.
Negotiation & Resolution:
Negotiate settlements and structured payment plans in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Compliance:
Ensure all collection activities comply with federal and state laws across WA, OR, CA, and ID, including FDCPA and applicable state statutes.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate, detailed records of communications, disputes, payment plans, and account status updates in the company's collection software.
Dispute Responses:
Assist with preparation of dispute response forms and documentation for accounts referred for dispute review. Coordinate internally to ensure files are complete and accurate prior to response.
Customer Relations:
Handle sensitive financial conversations with professionalism and respect. Provide clear explanations of balances, rights, and resolution options.
Reporting & Performance:
Meet established performance benchmarks while maintaining strict adherence to compliance and quality standards.

Required Qualifications:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to handle difficult conversations professionally and confidently Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy Proficiency with collection software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams) Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a high-volume workload Ability to work independently and as part of a team Commitment to ethical collection practices and regulatory compliance
Preferred Qualifications:
Third-party debt collection experience strongly preferred Experience working in a Washington-based collection agency Knowledge of FDCPA, Regulation F, Washington CAA, California Rosenthal Act, and other relevant state laws Experience negotiating payment plans and settlements Previous customer service or conflict resolution experience
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required Additional coursework in business, legal studies, or finance is a plus
