Position Overview
The University Art Gallery is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and personable professional to serve as a part-time Gallery Assistant. This entry-level position supports the day-to-day operations of the gallery and provides hands-on experience across exhibition installation, collections care, registration, gallery management, and museum education.
The ideal candidate will have prior internship or comparable experience in a museum or gallery setting, along with some training or coursework in museum studies, art handling, fine art, media studies, art history, or a related field. We are particularly interested in candidates who enjoy working with people and have experience or interest in art education, museum education, public programming, or visitor engagement.
Responsibilities
Exhibitions & Art Handling
Assist with the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions, including artwork handling, preparation of gallery spaces, and installation of exhibition materials.
Assist with the safe movement, handling, packing, and storage of artworks.
Help prepare exhibition materials, labels, signage, and gallery spaces.
Work with artists, guest curators, lenders, vendors, and university personnel as needed during exhibition preparation.
Assist with exhibition openings, programs, and special events.
Collections Care & Registration
Assist with basic registrar duties, including object documentation, inventories, location tracking, condition reporting, and maintaining collection records.
Support the care, organization, and appropriate storage of artworks in the university collection.
Assist with incoming and outgoing loans and related documentation.
Help maintain accurate digital and physical records for artworks and exhibitions.
Identify and report collections-care concerns, damage, or environmental issues to the Gallery Director.
Support routine collections-care activities and preventive conservation practices.
Gallery Management & Administration
Support the Gallery Director in the day-to-day operation and management of the gallery.
Assist with scheduling, communications, preparation of materials, and other administrative tasks.
Help maintain gallery spaces and ensure that exhibitions are presented in a professional and welcoming environment.
Assist with coordinating gallery programs, events, and activities.
Communicate professionally with students, faculty, staff, artists, visitors, and members of the public.
Perform other duties related to gallery operations as assigned.
Education & Visitor Engagement
Welcome visitors and serve as a knowledgeable and approachable representative of the gallery.
Assist with gallery talks, educational programs, tours, workshops, and other public- facing activities.
Help develop or prepare educational and interpretive materials for exhibitions.
Engage visitors in conversations about exhibitions and artworks in an accessible and welcoming manner.
Support the gallery's efforts to connect exhibitions and collections with the university community and broader public.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent training in museum studies, art history, fine art, media studies, arts administration, or a related field preferred.
At least one prior internship or comparable experience in a museum, gallery, cultural institution, or arts organization required.
Demonstrated training or experience in basic art handling and exhibition practices.
Familiarity with museum collections, registration, or collections-care practices preferred.
Experience or demonstrated interest in art education, museum education, public programming, or visitor engagement strongly preferred.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
Ability to safely handle and move artworks and exhibition materials.
Comfortable working with a diverse range of people and audiences.

Schedule

Position Overview
The Art Gallery is seeking a detail-oriented and organized professional to serve as a University Assistant supporting registrar functions and collections care. Working closely with the Gallery Director, this position will help maintain the physical and intellectual integrity of the gallery's diverse collection of artworks and support the documentation, movement, storage, and care of objects.
The position is well suited to an individual with experience in museum registration, collections management, art handling, conservation, or museum studies. Because the collection encompasses a range of media, materials, and object types, the successful candidate should be comfortable learning and applying appropriate care and handling practices to a diverse collection.
Responsibilities
Registration & Collections Management
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for artworks in the university's collection.
(We currently use The Collector's System.)
Create, update, and organize object files, condition reports, inventories, loan documentation, and other records.
Assist with the cataloguing and documentation of newly acquired or previously undocumented objects.
Track the location and movement of artworks within gallery, storage, and campus spaces.
Assist with incoming and outgoing loans, including documentation, condition reporting, packing, shipping coordination, and installation/deinstallation.
Maintain organized digital and physical collections documentation.
Assist with inventory projects and periodic collections audits.
Research and verify object information as needed, including artist, title, date, medium, dimensions, provenance, and related documentation.
Collections Care & Art Handling
Assist with the safe handling, movement, installation, deinstallation, and storage of artworks.
Conduct and maintain condition reports and photographic documentation.
Help monitor storage and exhibition environments and identify potential collections-care concerns.
Assist with appropriate packing, shelving, storage, and protection of artworks.
Support preventive conservation practices, including housekeeping and maintenance of collection storage and exhibition areas.
Identify and report damage, deterioration, environmental concerns, pest activity, or other risks to artworks.
Work with the Gallery Director and, when appropriate, outside conservators or other specialists to address collections-care needs.
General Gallery Support
Assist with exhibition preparation and installation as needed.
Coordinate with university personnel, artists, lenders, and vendors on collections- related matters.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism when handling collection records and sensitive information.
Perform other duties related to registration, collections management, and gallery operations as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in art history, museum studies, studio art, arts administration, conservation, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Previous experience in museum registration, collections management, art handling, or a related area preferred.
Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
Familiarity with basic collections-management and art-handling principles preferred.
Ability to safely handle and move artworks and collection materials.
Strong computer skills and comfort working with databases and digital records.
Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with the Gallery Director and other university personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Dean, the College of Business Internship Coordinator uses independent analysis and judgment to develop and coordinate the internship programs and employer engagement opportunities for students in the undergraduate business programs at Eastern.
The position has two primary areas of responsibility:
1. Internship development, coordination, and administration of assessment.
2. Professional and alumni outreach and employer partnership development.
Specific Responsibilities
- Collaborate with each of the departments in the College to implement the internship policy, including working closely with the department secretaries.
- Collaborate with the Office of Career Success to coordinate all internship and student pre-professional initiatives.
- Develop partnerships with regional organizations to pursue student internship placements.
- Develop and maintain database of all internship placements within the College.
- Meet with students to direct them through the internship process.

Position Overview
The Office of University Communications & Marketing at Eastern Connecticut State University seeks a skilled and creative News Writer/Editor (University Assistant) to support the University's storytelling, news coverage, and public relations efforts. This part-time position is ideal for a strong writer with journalism experience, excellent interviewing and editing skills, and a passion for telling compelling stories.
Please note: This position requires working on-site at Eastern Connecticut State University's campus in Willimantic, Connecticut. Remote work is not available for this role.
Responsibilities
Write and edit news stories, press releases, feature stories, and other written content supporting the University's communications, marketing, and public relations initiatives.
Cover University events, programs, and developments and produce engaging news content in AP style.
Conduct interviews and background research to ensure accurate, thorough, and compelling storytelling.
Edit and proofread content produced by student writers.
Post news content to the University's online newsroom (via the website's content management system).
Draft email newsletters and other digital communications.
Prepare news content for distribution across the University's social media platforms.
Participate in weekly writers' meetings to plan and coordinate coverage.
Assist with additional communications and marketing projects as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; degree in communications, journalism, English, or a related field preferred.
Demonstrated experience in news writing and editing, including knowledge of AP style and journalism ethics.
