Job Description
Idaho Eye and Laser Center is seeking a full-time Medical Billing Specialist to join our team. We are a fast-paced, multi-provider ophthalmology practice with multiple locations and Ambulatory Surgical Centers. We are looking for a detail-oriented, organized team member who can work independently while also contributing to a collaborative billing team. Essential Functions Review patient accounts, bills, and claims for accuracy and completeness; identify and obtain missing information as needed. Perform medical coding and billing functions using a computerized health information system. Utilize ICD-10 and CPT coding knowledge to support accurate billing and claim submission. Process insurance payments, adjustments, denials, and credits and accurately update patient accounts. Submit and follow up on insurance claims, including researching and resolving billing issues. Obtain prior authorizations and pre-determinations for planned and emergent procedures performed both in-house and at outside facilities. Verify insurance benefits and eligibility and communicate coverage information as needed. Maintain accurate and confidential patient and billing information. Answer phones and assist patients, insurance companies, and internal staff with billing-related questions in a professional and courteous manner. Perform administrative duties including faxing, scanning, filing confidential documents, data entry, and basic internet and email use. Maintain knowledge of changing insurance requirements, billing regulations, and internal policies and procedures. Meet established deadlines, productivity standards, and quality expectations. Work effectively as part of a team while also managing assigned responsibilities independently. Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and other applicable regulations. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Previous medical billing or healthcare office experience preferred. Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding preferred. Strong computer, internet, email, and data-entry skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and prioritization skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to communicate professionally with patients, insurance companies, providers, and coworkers. Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team. Willingness and ability to learn changing insurance requirements, procedures, and billing practices.
