This position reports to the Assistant Director of Operations. The Billing and Coding Specialist assists in development, implementation, and coordination of the operational processes with high integrity. Monitoring hospital and nursing home visit claim submission, revenue cycle, and best practices in accordance with FWMEP, state and federal policies and procedures. 2+ years of recent experience working in a medical office, hospital or other healthcare setting Must demonstrate excellent patient care and customer service skills Active AAPC (CPC, CPC+CPB), AHIMA (CCA, CCS, RHIT, RHIA) certification or currently pursuing certification Foundational knowledge of
ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, CPT/CPT
II and E/M code sets and guidelines Foundational knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy, disease, and disease processes Foundational knowledge in various insurance plans, and payer requirements for medical billing and coding 1-2 years recent experience in either facility or professional fee coding including hospital inpatient/outpatient, obstetrics, pediatric, emergency department, and nursing home/skilled nursing facility, preferred but not required Maintain 95% rate in both accuracy and productivity, as outlined within 3 months from date of hire Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, and concisely in a tactful, professional manner Excellent organizational skills: must be meticulous, able to prioritize workload, meet productivity expectations, meet deadlines for varied responsibilities while performing accurate work and providing excellent customer service Able to exercise flexibility and discretion when setting priorities, implementing procedures, maintaining standards, resolving problems and adjusting schedules, processes procedures Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook required Ability to exercise critical thinking and good judgment with effective decision-making and problem-solving skills required Ability to maintain confidentiality required Must demonstrate initiative with the ability to collaborate with peers and leadership
