Key Responsibilities Prepare, review, and submit electronic and paper claims to Medicaid, Medicare, private insurers, and grant funders. Ensure billing is accurate, timely, and compliant with payer guidelines and
CPT/HCPCS
coding for behavioral health and substance use services. Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on unpaid or denied claims. Correct and resubmit denied claims, coordinating with clinical and intake teams to gather required documentation. Assist in verifying client insurance eligibility and benefits. Process client payments and maintain billing records in accordance with HIPAA and agency standards. Generate monthly billing reports and assist with revenue reconciliation. Work with program managers and finance staff on grant-related invoicing and funder reporting. Participate in internal and external audits, providing requested billing documentation. Identify and escalate billing or compliance issues to management promptly. Receive, log and upload Medical Records requests to EHR and forward requests to appropriate individuals to fulfil. Attend all required trainings, meetings, and professional development sessions as assigned by the supervisor or organization. Stay current with agency policies, procedures, and relevant regulations or compliance standards. Perform other related duties as assigned by management to support departmental and organizational goals. Adapt to changing job responsibilities and organizational needs as required. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Health Administration, or related field preferred. 1-3 years of billing experience in a behavioral health or mental health services setting. Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and third-party payer billing procedures specific to mental health. Familiarity with behavioral health billing codes (CPT, HCPCS), modifiers, and place-of-service codes. Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Advanced MD, Credible, Carelogic, SmartCare, or similar. Strong understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality.
