We're looking for a talented Legal Assistant to join our team and play an important role in our bankruptcy, collections, and litigation practice. This isn't a position where you'll spend your day simply waiting for someone to tell you what to do. We're looking for someone who can think ahead, manage priorities, follow matters through to completion, and become a trusted part of the legal team. What You'll Do As our Legal Assistant, you'll work closely with attorneys and clients on bankruptcy, collections, and litigation matters.
Your responsibilities will include:
Manage bankruptcy matters using PACER and CM/ECF to review cases, analyze filings, download documents, and submit court filings. Prepare professional correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, defendants, and other parties regarding bankruptcy and collection matters. Draft and prepare legal documents , including proofs of claim, motions to lift stay, objections to plans, orders, forfeiture petitions, and other pleadings for attorney review. Keep cases and attorneys on track by monitoring and calendaring bankruptcy deadlines, hearings, court dates, and other important events. Handle New Mexico state court e-filing , including filing pleadings, retrieving court documents, and providing appropriate documents and updates to clients. Help prepare for hearings and trials by identifying, assembling, organizing, and preparing witness and exhibit lists and appropriately redacting confidential information. Communicate with clients and other parties by telephone and email to obtain information, provide updates, and help move legal matters forward. Support collection matters from beginning to end , from preparation of the complaint through judgment and satisfaction of judgment. Assist with litigation matters , including discovery, motions, document preparation, case organization, and other attorney support as needed. Enjoys learning and becoming the person others can count on to know what needs to happen next. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working in a law firm or other legal environment. Bankruptcy experience strongly preferred. Familiarity with PACER, CM/ECF, EPOC, and/or state court electronic filing systems. Experience drafting or preparing pleadings and other legal documents. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to independently manage assignments and follow matters through to completion. Why This Role?
