Attention to detail Computer skills Patient interaction Clinical confidentiality policies Medical terminology Full Job Description Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Billing Specialist for our billing operations to accurately process claims for Medicare and commercial payers.Job Function:
- Process professional laboratory claims accurately and timely for Medicare and commercial payers in accordance with established procedures and payer requirements.
- Perform assigned billing functions including claim submission, payment posting, insurance verification, accounts receivable follow-up, denial and rejection resolution, appeals, collections, client invoicing, patient balances, and credentialing support as applicable.
- Review accounts and billing activity for inconsistencies, missing information, unresolved balances, processing delays, or other issues requiring follow-up.
- Research billing problems, identify appropriate next steps, and communicate unresolved or recurring issues to the Billing Supervisor or Laboratory Director.
- Maintain accurate patient, payer, client, claim, payment, and accounts receivable information in applicable billing and laboratory systems.
- Use payer portals, electronic billing systems, and internal resources to obtain claim status, eligibility, payment, denial, and other information needed to resolve accounts.
- Communicate professionally with patients, physician offices, healthcare facilities, insurance companies, Medicare and other payers, clients, vendors, and internal departments.
- Respond to billing questions and account concerns in a courteous, accurate, and timely manner; escalate complex or sensitive matters when appropriate.
- Assist with reconciliation, reporting, special projects, process improvement, and departmental performance measures as assigned.
- Work cooperatively with the billing team and other departments to meet daily priorities, maintain workflow, and support departmental goals.
- Maintain organized work, meet assigned deadlines, and follow through on unresolved accounts or assigned tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Primarily an office and computer-based position with a high-volume workload. Remote work is possible, but limited in scope.Education/Experience:
- Previous medical billing experience preferred; clinical or reference laboratory billing experience is strongly preferred but may be trainable for an otherwise qualified candidate.
- Experience with Medicare billing is highly desirable; familiarity with commercial insurance billing and professional claims is preferred.
- Experience with accounts receivable, denials, payment posting, insurance verification, collections, claims follow-up, payer portals, and electronic billing systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, medical necessity, and medical terminology is helpful; this position does not have primary responsibility for medical coding.
- Relevant experience, demonstrated competence, reliability, and ability to learn are valued over formal degree requirements.

- Strong computer skills and ability to learn new billing systems, electronic health information systems, payer requirements, and workflows.
- Ability to protect confidential information and maintain professional relationships with patients, clients, payers, coworkers, and business partners.
- Completion of HIPAA, compliance, privacy/security, and role-specific training within required timeframes.
- Consent to background screening, drug screening, and other employment requirements in accordance with company policy and applicable law.

None. This position works under the direction of the Billing Supervisor and established laboratory leadership structure.Reports to:

- Must be able to perform prolonged computer and desk-based work and use standard office equipment.
