Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Billing Support Coding Specialist to join our team. This role is vital in ensuring accurate medical billing and coding processes, supporting revenue cycle management, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of medical coding standards, insurance claim processing, and electronic health record systems to facilitate seamless billing operations.

Non-Exempt Position Scope:
The Billing Support/Coding Specialist, under the direction of the Billing supervisor, is responsible for reviewing medical records, assigning appropriate codes for palliative care and hospice, and submitting claims to insurance providers for reimbursement. The Billing Support/Coding Specialist is responsible for the correct application of ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT codes to facilitate reimbursement and reporting requirements and is also responsible for timely claim/accurate claim submission and collections. Additionally, the Billing Support/Coding Specialist will handle billing-related tasks such as generating invoices, posting payment and resolving billing issues.   • Review medical records and documentation to accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes for hospice services.
  • Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulations, including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and ensure accurate code assignment.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims, denials, and appeals to ensure timely reimbursement.
  • Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers to resolve billing and issues and inquiries.
  • Generate and complete submission of claim and payment as required prior to the month end billing close.
  • Work claim denials and file appeals as needed to ensure collections are timely and maximized.
  • Report Write-off's monthly and be prepared to present at Finance Meeting as needed on a weekly basis and assist in performance improvement areas as required.
  • Identify, compile, abstract and code patient data, using standard classification systems.
  • Notes and records deficiencies/errors and coordinates with professional staff as needed on a case-by-case basis to ensure that necessary documentation is corrected and/or provided.
  • Compile and maintain patients' medical records to document condition and treatment and to provide data for third party payers, research, or other improvement efforts.
  • Enters data, such as demographic characteristics, history and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures, and treatment in EMR.
  • Releases information to persons and agencies according to regulations
  • Protect the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of coding and billing regulations, including changes in reimbursement policies.
  • Assist with billing inquiries and provide support as needed.
  • Compile and maintain billing records, reports, and documentation in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.

Supervisor Responsibilities:
None Education and Work Experience:
High School Diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred in medical billing or related field Minimum of one to two year's experience in related field Strong knowledge of medical coding systems and billing procedures Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in code assignment and billing processes Familiarity with billing software and electronic medical records (EMR) systems Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients. Knowledge of HIPAA privacy policies, informed consent, and other regulations Knowledge of regulations governing professional areas Excellent written, oral, and collaborative communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Proficient in

Certifications and Licenses:
Certified Coder in ICD-9 and ICD-10 (in process is acceptable) Valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance
Pay:
$21.00 - $23.00 per hour
