Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join our healthcare administration team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing the billing process for outpatient mental health services, ensuring accurate coding, timely submission of claims, and effective follow-up on outstanding accounts. Your expertise will help streamline revenue cycle operations, improve cash flow, and enhance patient satisfaction through clear communication and precise record-keeping. Responsibilities Review medical records and documentation to assign appropriate
ICD-9, ICD-10
diagnosis codes, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) procedure codes, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications for billing purposes. Prepare and submit insurance claims accurately using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with payer requirements. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims promptly by communicating with insurance companies and patients to resolve discrepancies or gather additional information. Maintain detailed records of billing activities, payment histories, and correspondence related to medical collections. Collaborate with medical office staff to verify patient information, insurance details, and ensure proper documentation for billing processes. Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, including
ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT
coding updates, and relevant healthcare regulations. Assist in resolving billing issues by reviewing medical records and documentation to ensure accurate coding and claim submission. Skills Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare billing procedures. Proficiency in ICD coding systems (ICD-9 and ICD-10), CPT coding, DRG classification, and understanding of ICD coding standards. Experience with medical collection processes and resolving billing discrepancies effectively. Familiarity with EMR systems and EHR platforms used in healthcare settings for billing and record management. Excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy in coding, claim preparation, and record keeping. Ability to interpret complex medical documentation and translate it into precise billing codes. Effective communication skills for interacting with insurance providers, patients, and healthcare staff.
