This position will focus primarily on insurance claim follow-up, denial resolution, and working accounts receivable (A/R) reports to ensure claims are processed and reimbursed accurately and timely. We are looking for someone who understands the full insurance follow-up process and is comfortable researching unpaid or underpaid claims, identifying the reason payment has not been received, and taking the necessary steps to bring accounts to resolution. Primary Responsibilities Work insurance A/R reports and follow up on outstanding claims Research unpaid, delayed, denied, and underpaid claims Contact insurance carriers and use payer portals to obtain claim status and resolve outstanding balances Identify denial trends and determine appropriate corrective action Correct and resubmit claims when necessary Prepare and submit reconsiderations and appeals Review EOBs/ERAs and payer responses to determine appropriate next steps Follow up on claims requiring additional documentation, authorization, referrals, medical records, or other information Identify payment discrepancies and underpayments based on expected reimbursement Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all follow-up activity Prioritize accounts based on aging, balance, timely filing requirements, and likelihood of collection Work collaboratively with other billing staff and clinical/administrative team members to resolve claim issues Assist with reducing outstanding A/R and preventing recurring billing and claim issues Qualifications Previous medical insurance follow-up and accounts receivable experience required Experience working insurance A/R aging reports Knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and other third-party payers Understanding of claim denials, EOBs/ERAs, CPT and ICD-10 coding concepts, modifiers, timely filing requirements, and payer policies Experience with insurance payer portals and electronic claim systems Ability to research claim issues independently and follow them through to resolution Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage a high volume of accounts while maintaining accurate follow-up documentation Strong written and verbal communication skills Dermatology or specialty medical billing experience is a plus What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys investigating and resolving claims rather than simply processing them . We need someone who can look at an aging report, determine why an account remains unpaid, identify the appropriate next step, and consistently follow through until the claim is resolved. We are especially interested in candidates with hands-on experience in insurance follow-up, denial management, appeals, underpayment review, and A/R cleanup .
