Job Description

Cook Family Eyecare is seeking an experienced Medical Billing Specialist to join our growing private optometry practice. We are looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in accurate work, and wants to be part of a team dedicated to providing outstanding patient care. This position is ideal for someone with prior medical billing experience , with optometry or ophthalmology billing experience strongly preferred. Schedule Monday, Wednesday, Friday Daytime hours (approximately 24 hours/week) Compensation $18-$25 per hour , depending on experience Responsibilities The Billing Specialist will be responsible for all aspects of insurance billing and revenue cycle management, including: Verify medical and vision insurance eligibility prior to patient appointments Submit insurance claims accurately and promptly Post insurance and patient payments Review and resolve claim rejections and denials Follow up on unpaid and aging insurance claims Monitor accounts receivable and reduce outstanding balances Assist with provider credentialing and insurance enrollments Communicate with insurance companies regarding claims and authorizations Educate doctors and staff on documentation or coding issues that may affect reimbursement Help improve office workflows to maximize clean claim submission and reimbursement Insurance Experience Preferred Experience working with some or all of the following is highly desirable: Medical Insurance Medicare Medicaid Blue Cross Blue Shield Cigna Humana UnitedHealthcare SelectHealth (helpful but not required) Commercial medical insurance plans Vision Insurance VSP EyeMed Spectera Versant Davis Vision Superior Vision Qualifications Required Previous medical billing experience Strong understanding of insurance claims and payment posting Experience working claim denials and aging accounts Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently and manage priorities Preferred Optometry or ophthalmology billing experience Experience with credentialing providers Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and vision insurance billing Familiarity with practice management software What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who: Takes ownership of their work Is proactive rather than reactive Communicates well with doctors and staff Wants to continually improve systems and processes Helps ensure our patients receive the maximum benefits available while maintaining accurate, compliant billing If you're looking for a supportive private practice where your work truly makes a difference, we'd love to hear from you.
