Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Medical Billing & Reconciliation Specialist specializing in community-based mental health billing to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing medical billing processes, ensuring accurate coding, and reconciling accounts to optimize revenue flow. Your expertise will help streamline claims submissions, resolve billing discrepancies, and maintain precise medical records. Duties Prepare and submit behavioral health claims using billing software, Availity, payer portals and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements. Review and verify medical coding including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-10, billed units, and reimbursement amounts to ensure accuracy for billing purposes. Reconcile accounts receivable by identifying discrepancies between billed amounts and payments received, resolving issues efficiently. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through healthcare claims management processes and communicate with insurance providers to expedite payments. Maintain detailed medical records and documentation related to billing transactions, ensuring data integrity within EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems. Collaborate with providers office staff to clarify billing inquiries, support account management, and improve overall customer service experience. Stay current with understanding MCOs, DMAS, DBHDS and other regulatory procedures. Experience Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or healthcare claims management within a medical office or hospital setting. Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and the use of billing software and EMR/EHR systems. Strong knowledge of health insurance processes, including claims submission, adjudication, and appeals. Demonstrated ability to handle medical collections effectively while maintaining excellent customer service skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for reporting and documentation purposes. Prior experience working with ICD coding standards (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding procedures, DRG classifications, and medical billing best practices is highly desirable.
