Job Description

Billing Specialist - Prior Authorizations, Benefits & Accounts Receivable TMJ | Sleep | CT | Physical Therapy Billing Full-Time In Person About Us We are a fast-growing, multidisciplinary specialty healthcare practice treating TMJ disorders, orofacial pain, dental sleep medicine, and related conditions — including in-house physical therapy. Because we bill exclusively through medical insurance, our billing team plays a central, high-visibility role in the success of the practice and the care our patients receive. We're growing and looking to add experienced Billing Specialists to our team. The Role We're looking for an experienced Billing Specialist who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and confident navigating complex insurance requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving problems, working directly with patients and insurance companies, and taking ownership of billing challenges from start to finish. Responsibilities Prior Authorizations & Benefits Process and follow up on prior authorizations for TMJ, Sleep, CT, and Physical Therapy services. Verify insurance benefits, including coverage, limitations, exclusions, deductibles, and authorization requirements. Claims, Denials & Accounts Receivable Manage denials, appeals, and medical necessity documentation. Perform AR follow-up on denied, delayed, and underpaid claims. Identify opportunities to reduce denials, improve workflows, and increase reimbursement. Communication & Service Manage a steady volume of calls from insurance companies, patients, and providers while balancing billing, authorization, and AR responsibilities. Provide exceptional customer service and professional communication on every interaction. Communicate with payers, patients, providers, and internal teams to keep care and billing moving forward. Resolve complex insurance and billing issues efficiently and accurately. Maintain accurate records and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Qualifications 5+ years of healthcare billing experience, with strong hands-on experience in: Prior authorizations Insurance verification & benefits Denials & appeals Accounts receivable Claims resolution Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a confident, professional phone presence. Exceptional customer service skills and strong attention to detail. Ability to manage steady call volumes and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently. A positive, "figure it out" attitude and commitment to getting results. Preferred Experience Experience working with athenahealth or other similar electronic medical records. Experience with TMJ, Sleep Medicine, CT/Imaging, or Physical Therapy billing is a plus.
