Compensation — Varies based on education level Enrolled as a freshman or sophomore in a college or university: $19.57/hour Enrolled as a junior or senior in a college or university: $21.17/hour Enrolled in a graduate program: $24.77/hour The Parks Data Collection Intern will assist with verifying existing park asset data and collecting missing information to populate the Park's asset management system (OpenGov Enterprise Asset Management). The data collected will help Parks and Recreation staff make better informed decisions related to budgeting, planning, maintenance, and replacement of assets throughout the City's parks. This internship offers a chance to gain hands-on experience with park infrastructure, data collection, and municipal asset management. Interns will learn how the Parks Department tracks and manages assets while contributing to an important effort that supports long-term planning and maintenance. This position is intended as a learning opportunity for students interested in public service, parks and recreation, data collection software, data management, or related fields.
Project assignments may include:
On-site data collection Preparing supporting materials for meetings, reports, or projects Updating and organizing asset data Working with data collection software Work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor. The principal function of this class is to provide a learning opportunity to students interested in working in a public service field. This position can include analytical and administrative services in support of department and city-wide programs and projects related to a student's area of study. Incumbents, as assigned by position and supervisor may be responsible for performing project research and recommendations; preparing information and/or supporting documents for meetings or projects; maintaining databases; providing technical assistance; participating in community outreach; and facilitating internal and/or external customer service. This position will perform work under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor. Examples of Essential Work Interns will travel to various parks and facilities throughout Hillsboro to assist with the following tasks: Data Verification Verify that existing park asset data is accurate Confirm assets are classified correctly within the system Update or retire outdated records as needed Data Collection Use a tablet mobile device and data collection tools (such as ArcGIS Field Maps or OpenGov EAM) to identify and add missing asset locations and attributes Record and catalog updated asset information in the City's asset management system Asset Photography Take photos of park assets and upload them to the asset management system (OpenGov EAM) This description represents only the core areas of responsibility for this position. Specific assignments may vary depending on departmental needs. Receives and responds to assigned internal and external customer inquiries and information requests. Researches, analyzes, troubleshoots, and provides information and support related to functional area of assignment under close supervision of an assigned supervisor. Interaction with the public when doing onsite work. Researches and analyzes data, information records and/or trends; prepares and completes reports, surveys; provides recommendations for improved processes and procedures. Assists in implementing and administering special department projects, such as preparation of reports, performing project research and management, and project or program development. Recommendations for improving processes. Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems. Attends meetings, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas. Work will be a mix of in the field and in the office. Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned, including the ability to meet staff off-site at public locations (i.e. coffee shop, other City sites) for one-on-one meetings. Acceptable Experience and Training Must be enrolled in an educational institution (secondary or post-secondary) or have graduated within the last 3 months; and interested or studying Social Work, Criminal Justice, History, English, or closely related field; Level of education and experience needed will vary based on assignment requirements. Preference may be given to students currently enrolled at Portland Community College in the Future Connect program.

Possession of a valid State Driver's License and safe driving record. Additional Information Bilingual Incentive Pay Available Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, American Sign Language, or another language spoken by more than 10% of City residents as identified by the most recent U.S. Census, may qualify for a monthly bilingual premium equal to 3% of their regular base pay, subject to successful completion of a City-administered fluency assessment.
