Job Summary Medical Professionals is seeking an Eligibility & Enrollment Specialist to support a busy community healthcare setting in San Jose, CA . This position helps new and established patients access healthcare services by assisting with insurance enrollment, Medi-Cal and Covered California applications, patient registration, outreach, payment plans, and front desk support. The ideal candidate has previous experience in a medical setting, strong knowledge of healthcare coverage programs, and excellent customer service and administrative skills. Key Responsibilities Assist new and established patients with enrollment in health insurance programs, Medi-Cal, Covered California, and available County coverage programs. Register new patients, prepare registration packets, assist with forms, confirm appointments, and schedule new patient visits. Conduct outreach calls and mailings to established clients and new managed care enrollees to encourage access to available healthcare services. Maintain the schedule for the Medi-Cal eligibility worker and prepare eligibility and registration reports. Assist patients with developing payment plans when needed. Provide backup support for reception and medical records, including answering voicemail and following up with patients. Compile monthly statistics and information for Medical Department Board reporting. Participate in outreach events and work collaboratively within a team-based, patient-centered healthcare environment. Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in a medical-related field or comparable. Minimum 2 years of experience in a medical setting in a similar position . Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Knowledge of medical terminology, procedure codes, ICD-9 codes, and medical records handling. Knowledge of Federal and State health programs and Qualified Health Plans through Covered California. Certified Enrollment Counselor training for Covered California, or willingness to complete training within 3 months of hire. Working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Windows. Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and patient registries. Excellent customer service, organization, confidentiality, and multitasking skills. Willingness to cross-train in reception and medical records. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse, fast-paced healthcare environment. Knowledge of and ability to relate to the American Indian community and other minority populations. Valid California Driver License, automobile insurance, and clean driving record; documentation required at time of hire. Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; frequently stoop, squat, or bend; and lift up to 35 pounds. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual Spanish preferred. Flexibility, initiative, reliability, and creativity.
