Insurance Verification Specialist

Total Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is a leading multi-location provider of comprehensive musculoskeletal care across Long Island. Our team is dedicated to delivering exceptional patient experiences and helping individuals return to active, healthy lifestyles. Position Overview We are seeking a full-time Insurance Verification Specialist to support our Long Island offices. This role is essential to ensuring a seamless patient experience by verifying insurance coverage, tracking referrals, and minimizing billing delays or denials. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to accuracy and patient satisfaction. Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage prior to appointments to reduce claim denials and ensure accurate billing. Confirm that appointments are scheduled appropriately and aligned with provider participation and insurance requirements. Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, and insurance carriers to obtain referrals, authorizations, and clarify coverage details. Educate patients on insurance benefits and financial responsibilities in a clear and professional manner. Collaborate with front desk, billing, and clinical teams to coordinate scheduling updates and resolve insurance-related issues. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation within practice systems. Qualifications At least 1 year experience in insurance verification , authorizations, or a related healthcare administrative role required . Strong knowledge of New York insurance plans, including commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid. Understanding of Medicare Part B benefits and Medicare Advantage (replacement) plans. Familiarity with medical terminology, ICD-10, and CPT coding. Proficiency with insurance portals, electronic medical records (EMR), and Microsoft Office. Excellent communication skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to patient confidentiality.
