Job Summary:
The cash application position is responsible for timely and accurate posting of payments and adjustments to patient accounts. This position is also responsible for balancing and reconciling bank deposits by generating reports in the EMR.
Essential Functions:
Timely and accurately posting of patient and insurance payments Timely and accurately posting of adjustments to patient accounts Understands how to download electronic remits (835's) Prepares and generates appropriate system reports on payments and adjustments Reconciles all payments to the account, remittance, and batch daily Recognize trends identifying reasons for payment discrepancies Provides guidance related to questions about the cash application of payments Offers input and maintains reporting requirements relative to cash and adjustment applications spreadsheet.
Additional Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned or requested. Conforms to all applicable Agency policies and procedures. Sound clinical judgement and ethical decision-making. Participates actively in continuing education and in-services. Maintains confidentiality of patient information and business trade practices Assumes accountability for reporting incidents and complaints according to Agency policy.
Knowledge / Skills
/
Abilities:
Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills Time management Cooperative attitude Medical terminology including how to read an EOB Advanced written and verbal interpersonal communication Basic math skills. Home Health or Hospice knowledge preferred Accounts receivable and posting payment is preferred Experience with medical billing software preferred Computer proficiency - MS Office and web enabled applications strongly preferred Excel Knowledge Knowledge of insurance plans including Medicare and Medicaid Ability to handle completing a task in high levels of interruption while paying close attention to detail Ability to maintain confidentiality

Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
Education:
High School education or
GED Experience:
1+ years of insurance verification preferred License /
Certification:
Driver's license and proof of current auto liability insurance; no listing in the OIG Excluded Provider listing
Environmental Conditions:
Works under a variety of conditions in facilities and offices; ability to work flexible schedule, ability to travel locally; some exposure to unpleasant weather. Moderate noise level; moderate stress and emotional demands.
Physical Requirements:
Sitting is required. Requires ability to always handle stressful situations in a calm and courteous manner. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and agency needs.
