In this role, you will help ensure a smooth start to care for new patients by verifying insurance eligibility and benefits across all OSS locations. This is a 100% in-office position based at our centralized Tacoma billing office. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced medical billing environment. If you enjoy supporting patients and clinic teams, take pride in excellent customer service, and are looking for a stable Monday - Friday schedule with no weekends required , we would love to hear from you. Hours are between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Verify patient eligibility, insurance benefits, and obtain required prior authorizations before the initial visit. Communicate with clinic PSR and treating staff regarding required insurance documentation and follow up to ensure timely completion. Contact insurance companies to verify benefits, obtain authorizations, and perform follow-up as needed. Enter insurance benefit and authorization information into the EMR system and maintain detailed documentation of all communications with insurance companies, patients, clinic staff, and billing personnel. Review and confirm the accuracy of patient registration, demographic, and insurance information; contact patients directly to obtain missing or additional information when necessary. Prepare patient insurance benefit letters in the EMR system for distribution by clinic staff. Ensure all insurance verifications and prior authorizations for scheduled patients are completed before the close of business each day.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of insurance verification, benefits, and authorization processes. Proficient computer skills and the ability to operate standard office equipment, including multi-line telephones, scanners, and copiers. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with patients, staff, insurance representatives, and referral sources. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients, employees, and external partners. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Minimum:
High School graduation or equivalent AND three years of experience in an appropriately related position OR Equivalent education/experience.
