Job Description
Insurance Specialist Join Our Team! Are you detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about helping patients navigate their dental insurance benefits? We're looking for an experienced Insurance Specialist to join our growing dental team! In this role, you'll play a vital part in creating a positive patient experience by ensuring insurance benefits are verified accurately, claims are processed efficiently, and patients receive clear financial information before treatment. If you enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and have experience with dental insurance and Open Dental software, we'd love to hear from you! What You'll Do Insurance Verification Verify patient dental insurance eligibility and benefits for all scheduled appointments. Review coverage for preventive, basic, major, orthodontic, and periodontal services. Confirm annual maximums, deductibles, waiting periods, frequencies, age limitations, downgrades, missing tooth clauses, and other benefit limitations. Identify coordination of benefits (COB) and dual coverage situations. Document verified benefits accurately in Open Dental. Update insurance plans, subscriber information, and patient demographics. Open Dental Management Maintain accurate insurance plans and carrier information. Enter insurance estimates based on verified benefits. Attach insurance verification documentation to patient records. Review treatment plans for insurance accuracy before appointments. Monitor outstanding insurance claims and aging reports. Update fee schedules and insurance information as needed. Tag appointments with appropriate insurance notes. Daily Responsibilities Maintain a five-day insurance verification schedule. Keep patient insurance records accurate and up to date. Follow up with patients regarding insurance updates. Document insurance verification activities thoroughly. Answer insurance-related questions from team members. Support efficient insurance workflows that enhance the patient experience. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of dental insurance verification experience required. Experience using Open Dental practice management software preferred. Experience with Flex Verification or similar insurance verification software preferred. Knowledge of dental insurance terminology, CDT codes, claims processing, and explanation of benefits (EOBs). Working knowledge of PPO, Premier, Medicaid, and indemnity dental plans. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
