TITLE :
Central Scheduling Specialist
DEPARTMENT
: Revenue Cycle
POSITION STATUS/HOURS
Full-time Day position (40 hours/week Monday-Friday) with varying shifts between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Benefit Eligible Position!
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for scheduling patient appointments for designated areas according to Grant Regional Health Center protocols. The Central Scheduling Specialist will follow very specific protocols in scheduling and the collection of financial information Ability to transfer or direct calls to the party the caller requests or determine where the caller should be directed, based on the purpose of the call.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Responsible for efficient, expedient, and accurate scheduling. Effectively communicate with patients, families, healthcare team members and providers both in person and via telephone Assures that patients have all information they need so that they will arrive on time and prepare for their appointment and that the hospital has all of the information required to bill properly for its services Verify and update the records related to insurance and stay abreast with the information on the current insurance benefits Review and evaluate scheduled appointments for completeness and type of test ordered. Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and hospital policy Update and verify primary care and referring providers Manage templates for day-to-day edits, cancel and reschedule appointments as needed Receive and handle all telephone calls and routes to appropriate department or personnel Ensure telephones are courteously and professionally answered Work collaboratively with all departments to meet organizational goals Perform the necessary assessment to appropriately prioritize and manage calls; follow specific department protocols. Adhere to standards and guidelines for scheduling appointments Refer patient to the Business Office when financial arrangements need to be made Collaborate with other departments to assist in obtaining pre-authorization in a cross-functional manner Exhibit and manage excellent turn-around time, in order to ensure timely authorizations Assist in maintaining monthly quality assurance documentation Verification of insurance information through web-based systems Enter applicable patient information into computer database Assist with the scheduling of patient services for GRHC specialists, as well as hospital-based services Capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
: High school graduate. Advanced education is preferred. E xperience in hospital billing/pre-authorization or insurance verification with demonstrated knowledge of health insurance plans including: Medicare, Medicaid, HMO s and PPO s is preferred. Previous experience in appointment scheduling in a health care environment (e.g., physician office, clinic or hospital) is preferred. Strong computer skills/knowledge. Ability to successfully navigate between multiple systems throughout the course of the workday. This includes but not limited to billing software, written Standard Operating Procedures and payer portals. Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidential information. Excellent time management, organizational, multitasking and teamwork skills.
