The Family Advocate must have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in child welfare, counseling, juvenile justice, the law or a related field.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct pre-interview contact with non-offending caregiver prior to a scheduled forensic interview to build rapport, answer questions and provide information on how to locate the appropriate CAC office. Attend all scheduled child forensic interviews in order to meet with the non-offending caregiver during the interview and participate in pre- and post- interview briefings with MDT members assigned to the case. Complete any and all necessary assessments, intake and paperwork requirements with the family. Administer OMS surveys to non-offending caregivers and child(ren) on the day of the interview, input OMS surveys into data system, and email follow-up surveys, as appropriate. Conduct follow-up with the non-offending caregiver within 48 hours of the child forensic interview. Establish a trusting relationship with families by initiating and maintaining regular phone contact with the non-offending caregiver in accordance with Children's Trust protocols. Act as a liaison between the family and professionals, as needed. Assess need for additional supports and/or community resources and make referrals for services, when appropriate. Document all interactions with the caregivers and other professionals in the client case record (NCATrak). Contact primary investigators immediately whenever concerns arise with a family. If serious concerns about a child's safety are an issue, contact DSS hotline. Be available for 24/7 crisis support by phone. Attend regularly scheduled multidisciplinary team case review meetings in order to share updates on the progress of the family and address any concerns that have become evident. Obtain information from team members that can be shared with non-offending caregiver, and address additional services the team can provide to the family. Educate and assist families with Virginia Victims Fund (VVF) applications, if applicable/requested. Educate the non-offending caregiver about basic court processes, including the roles of Victim Witness and the Commonwealth's Attorney's office. Attend appropriate court hearings with the non-offending caregiver, when requested. Regularly attend professional conferences, workshops, and webinars for professional growth. Forensic Interviewer Job Summary The Forensic Interviewer is responsible for interviewing child victims of sexual abuse and serious physical abuse that are brought to the Children's Advocacy Center by Law Enforcement or Social Services. The goal of the CAC is to interview these children in a supportive manner and in a comfortable environment in order to complete an interview that will assist in the child abuse investigation. Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred, in social work, counseling, psychology or criminal justice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct in-depth interviews of alleged child sexual abuse and physical abuse victims. Document all interviews conducted. Maintain reports on the child's name, age, date of interview conducted, whether a disclosure took place and a brief summary of the child's disclosure. Enter all children, who are interviewed or discussed at case review meetings, into agency case tracking software. Information included, but limited to, demographic information about the child, legal proceedings and their outcomes, law enforcement and social services dispositions and mental health referrals. Testify in court proceedings, as necessary. Participate in Multidisciplinary team case review meetings. Educate team members, as needed, regarding child interviews. Attend professional conferences and workshops, when appropriate, for professional growth; at least 40 hours of on-going training per year. Adherence to the APSAC (American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children) Code of Ethics. Attend peer review through Children's Advocacy Center of Virginia or another approved group. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in child welfare, counseling juvenile justice, or the law. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with different types of personalities and professionals. Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within families in crisis relating to child abuse and neglect. Excellent writing skills. Proficient with MS Office programs. Strong communication skills. Ability to work well with other professionals. Knowledge of child abuse and its impact on children. Knowledge of child development stages and a demonstrated ability to utilize this knowledge to communicate with children.
