CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Legal Analyst The Office of K. Edward Safir, Standing Chapter 13 Trustee, is accepting expressions of interest for the role of Legal Analyst. This role will assist with the preparation filing, and management of legal documents in bankruptcy proceedings. The Legal Analyst position involves supporting the Trustee and staff attorneys by ensuring timely preparation and filing of documents, tracking case progress, and maintaining accurate records. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Legal Analysis & Case Management Review and audit cases prior to 341 meetings to ensure compliance with bankruptcy codes and rules. Conduct audits of new cases, determining eligibility for motions to dismiss or discharge and if there is a need for business case treatment. Reviewing and marking amended plans, amendments, and schedules. Review and analyze mortgage claims, checking for issues such as perfection of claims and excessive attorney fees. Ensure compliance with relevant bankruptcy rules and assist attorneys in drafting motions, objections, and dismissals. Follow up on case statuses after hearings, coordinating with debtors' attorneys and ensuring all legal issues are addressed. Document Preparation & Filing Prepare objections to confirmation within two days of receipt of the 341 worksheets. Draft and file pleadings, orders, motions, and various legal forms after attorney review. Electronically file legal documents with the court as appropriate. Process and send checks to the registry, prepare creditor refund requests, and track related payments. Prepare notices of prior discharge and other case-related notices, ensuring compliance with bankruptcy procedures. Administrative Support Manage attorney calendars, ensuring all relevant court and case dates are met. Maintain accurate court notes and update the system regarding the outcomes of hearings. Review debtor address changes and ensure appropriate updates are made. Prepare master calendars for 341 meetings, confirmation hearings, and motions. Input reset dates for hearings and update court notes as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or a GED. Minimum of 2-4 years of legal document preparation, preferably with bankruptcy experience. Read and comprehend instructions, discussions, correspondence, and memos in English. Effective verbal communication skills, able to hold conversations and convey legal concepts clearly. Comprehend legal and specialized bankruptcy terminology. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and legal filing software (e.g., PACER). Typing speed of 65-80 WPM preferred. Basic familiarity with legal research tools and case management systems. Attention to detail. Skilled at organizing and prioritizing assignments. Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness. Able to adhere to and meet deadlines.
