•110,000 A well-established, independent midsize law firm is seeking a high-energy, technologically strong Legal Secretary / Legal Assistant to support attorneys in its Real Estate Litigation and Trusts & Estates practices . This is an opportunity for someone who wants to be more than a back-office support person. You will work closely with attorneys on sophisticated matters, take ownership of day-to-day workflow, and become an integral part of a highly active practice.
The Opportunity:
The firm is known for handling sophisticated legal matters while maintaining a more personal, entrepreneurial environment than many larger firms. Attorneys and staff work closely together, and the firm places value on professionalism, initiative and getting things done. The Real Estate Litigation position supports one of the top attorneys of the firm on a high-profile desk. This is a role for someone who is organized, confident, responsive and comfortable working at a fast pace while managing competing priorities. The Trusts & Estates position provides support within a sophisticated practice handling estate planning and related matters for high-net-worth clients. The role requires discretion, strong attention to detail and a polished approach to client service.
What You'll Do:
Depending on the practice area, responsibilities may include: Provide high-level legal and administrative support to partners and associates. Draft, revise, proofread and format legal documents and correspondence. Manage attorney calendars, meetings, deadlines and case-related commitments. Prepare and coordinate pleadings, motions, briefs, estate planning documents and other legal materials. Coordinate depositions, document signings, notarizations, witnesses and other case or client logistics. Handle e-filing, document management and e-discovery-related tasks. Review and coordinate billing, pro formas and client billing inquiries. Enter attorney time and process expenses and reimbursements. Maintain organized files and confidential client information. Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, vendors and other external contacts. Anticipate attorney needs, prioritize effectively and follow assignments through to completion. Provide backup support and assist with special projects as needed.
What We're Looking For:
5+ years of legal secretary, legal assistant or comparable law firm support experience. Strong litigation experience for the Real Estate Litigation opportunity; Trusts & Estates or sophisticated transactional experience is preferred for the Trusts & Estates opportunity. Excellent writing, proofreading, organizational and communication skills. Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word and Excel. Experience with legal technology and document management systems; iManage experience is highly valued. Comfortable working independently while also functioning as part of a close-knit support team. Professional, polished and discreet when working with attorneys and clients. Able to manage multiple priorities in a demanding, deadline-driven environment. Strong judgment, initiative and attention to detail.
Schedule & Compensation:
Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m
•5:30 p.m. Hybrid schedule, generally 3 days in the New York City office The nature of these desks requires flexibility to work additional days in the office when business needs require it.
Salary:
$85,000
•110,000, depending on experience.
