Job Description

Paralegal - Contractor to Employee Opportunity Fitrakis & Gadell-Newton LLC , a downtown Columbus law firm, is seeking a competent and dependable paralegal with experience in both litigation and transactional law. The firm represents individuals, families, property owners, entrepreneurs, and businesses in matters involving real estate and property, civil litigation, civil rights, small business law, personal injury, probate, and estates . This position will initially be structured as an independent contractor position , with the possibility of transitioning to a part-time or full-time W-2 employee based on mutual fit, workload, and the needs of the firm. Responsibilities The successful candidate will perform substantive paralegal work, including: Legal and factual research and legal writing; Drafting and assisting with pleadings, motions, correspondence, contracts, and other legal documents; Discovery, document review, case organization, and litigation preparation; Real estate and property research and transactional assistance; Probate and estate administration support; Client intake, communication, and gathering information and documents; Preparing for hearings, depositions, mediation, and trial; Electronic and in-person court filing; Maintaining files, calendars, deadlines, and case-related records; and Other substantive paralegal and investigative work as needed. Qualifications We are looking for someone who is organized, capable of working independently, and comfortable taking responsibility for substantive legal work .
Candidates should have:
Prior paralegal or comparable legal experience, preferably in both litigation and transactional matters; Strong legal research, writing, organizational, and communication skills; Professional and compassionate client communication skills; Strong computer and technology skills; Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment; and A valid driver's license and ability to drive. This is a mobile/hybrid position . Work may take place remotely at a home office, at the downtown office, courthouses, properties, government offices, businesses, or clients' homes, so the ability and willingness to travel locally is required. We have a complete computer, printer, and webcam set up available for at-home use for the right candidate. Being a Notary Public , or willingness to become one, is highly desirable but is not required. Our Work Environment We offer a relaxed but professional small-firm environment .
