Medical Billing & Coding Specialist (In/Out-of-Network)

Orthopedic Practice and Ambulatory Surgery Center Location:

In-person (Arroyo Grande, CA) $25.00 - $30.00 per hour (based on experience) Full-Time + Benefits Under the supervision of the Practice Administrator , the Medical Billing and Coding Specialist is responsible for auditing medical charts to ensure accurate coding of office visits, procedures, and diagnoses. This role works closely with physicians, staff, and our EMR vendor to support accurate documentation and efficient billing processes. The position involves reviewing and resolving coding-related claim edit work queues, supporting timely and accurate claim submission, and helping prevent denials, rejections, and A/R adjustments by ensuring claims are completed and billed promptly. Responsibilities Perform periodic audits of medical charts for coding accuracy and compliance Review and resolve claim edits and billing work queues Submit accurate claims and support timely reimbursement Collaborate with providers and staff to clarify documentation Reduce denials and rework through proactive claim management Work closely with EMR vendor and internal teams to improve workflows Qualifications 1-3+ years of medical billing and coding experience Strong knowledge of

ICD-10, CPT/HCPCS

codes, and modifiers Understanding of Medicare regulations and reimbursement guidelines Experience with out-of-network billing preferred Familiarity with MIPS and revenue cycle management (RCM) Experience with EHR systems (Modernizing Medicine a plus) Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills Additional Experience (Preferred) Collections and A/R follow-up Professional fee billing
