Responsibilities Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility prior to appointments using electronic health records (EHR) systems and insurance portals. Obtain insurance prior authorizations for necessary procedures, ensuring all documentation aligns with health insurance policies and clinical requirements. Accurately code dental procedures using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding standards to facilitate proper billing and reimbursement. Manage medical records and dental claims submissions efficiently while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies. Follow up on unpaid claims, resolve billing discrepancies, and communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status or denials. Assist patients with understanding their dental benefits, out-of-pocket costs, and payment options through excellent customer service skills. Maintain organized documentation of all insurance correspondence, medical coding details, and billing records in compliance with office policies. Experience Prior experience working in a medical or dental office environment with a strong understanding of health insurance policies and managed care processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel for record keeping and reporting purposes. Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) or electronic medical records (EMR) systems for managing patient information efficiently. Familiarity with medical terminology related to dental procedures, medical coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), and billing practices. Experience handling insurance verification, prior authorization processes, and claims follow-up to ensure timely reimbursements. Understanding of HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy and ensure compliance during all administrative activities. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with patients, insurance representatives, and team members.
