In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately translating medical diagnoses, procedures, and services into standardized codes using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD (International Classification of Diseases), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) systems. Your expertise will ensure precise billing and reimbursement processes, contributing to the smooth operation of our medical office. This position offers an engaging environment where your coding skills directly impact patient care documentation and revenue cycle management. Duties Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG codes in compliance with current coding standards. Ensure accurate documentation of diagnoses, procedures, and treatments for billing purposes. Prepare and submit clean claims to insurance companies using electronic medical record (EMR) or electronic health record (EHR) systems. Follow up on unpaid claims, process medical collections, and resolve billing discrepancies efficiently. Maintain comprehensive records of coded data, billing transactions, and patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding issues to maximize reimbursement accuracy. Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations affecting medical billing practices. Requirements Proven experience in medical coding and billing within a healthcare setting. Strong knowledge of DRG classifications, CPT coding procedures, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, and medical terminology. Familiarity with medical records management and documentation standards. Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for coding and billing processes. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex medical information accurately. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with healthcare teams. Knowledge of medical collection processes and insurance claim submission protocols.
