Great Lakes Orthopaedic Center is seeking an onsite experienced Medical Biller to join our team. Candidates must have prior medical billing experience, and need to be able to work in a fast paced environment as part of a team. This position could be based out of our Traverse City location or Petoskey location Primary job responsibilities include reviewing denials, checking benefits, providing estimates for services and answering patient/staff questions as needed. Minimum of 2 years billing and coding experience required. Experience in Orthopedics, Physical Therapy, or Orthotics and Prosthetics a plus.
Coding Responsibilities:
- Enter the correct codes into patients' EHR
- Reviews Physical Therapy claims for proper coding/documentation prior to claim submission
- Coding and Charge Entry of all hospital services performed by mid-level including consults, procedures, and surgical assistant fees
- Train as back up to surgery/office coders for coverage as needed Billing Responsibilities
- Following up with the appropriate parties (insurance companies, patients, and RCM team members) to ensure bills are paid
- Answering billing related questions in the office as needed
- Reviewing Pre-Registration and obtaining authorizations as needed for patients to be seen in the office
- Checking benefits for surgeries and in office procedures and colleting deposits as necessary
- Posting of payments for old A/R balances that come directly to GLOC verses the lockbox
- Maintaining knowledge of surgery, radiology, and injection authorization processes
- Able to function as a back up to primary authorization specialist as needed General Responsibilities
- Assist patients with questions regarding insurance and/or account balances
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and information security (HIPAA)
- Keep current with changes and advancement in the field
- Work with other staff members to ensure accuracy
- Assist in educating physicians and staff in requirements of documentation for proper reimbursement
- Maintains knowledge and complies with all personnel and other established job related policies and procedures.
