Job Description

Job Summary This position provides lead-level customer service, administrative support, and operational assistance for a variety of motor vehicle transactions, including titles, registrations, renewals, and issuance of license plates, in accordance with Idaho law and Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) policies and procedures. The DMV Lead Clerk serves as a primary resource for staff and customers, assists with daily workflow coordination, cash handling oversight, and training support, and performs accurate data entry to maintain records, logs, and supporting documentation. This position may assist with employee direction, balancing procedures, and departmental operations as assigned. Essential Functions Process a variety of motor vehicle title transactions, including new titles, title transfers, repossessions, out-of-state titles, and dealer transactions; Provide professional and effective customer service to County employees, customers, and the general public; Collect and process required State and County fees and applicable charges; Operate computer systems to accurately update vehicle registrations and title records; Balance and reconcile daily cash drawer and complete end-of-day reports; Assist with coordinating daily workflow and providing guidance and support to DMV clerical staff; Assist in training new employees on DMV procedures, policies, cash handling, and customer service expectations; Help monitor compliance with Idaho Transportation Department procedures and County policies; Maintain accurate records, reports, and supporting documentation; Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information; Follow verbal and written instructions with accuracy and attention to detail; Assist with resolving customer concerns and escalated issues in a professional manner. Additional Responsibilities & Duties Communicate and coordinate with co-workers to support efficient departmental operations; Perform general office and clerical duties as assigned; Serve as a backup for the other departmental functions when needed; Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications/Requirements Must submit to and pass a drug test and background check; Must possess strong customer service, organizational, and communication skills; Must be able to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment; Must be dependable, punctual, and maintain regular attendance. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED required; Minimum of two (2) years of customer service, clerical, cashiering, or related experience required; Experience in a lead, assistant, supervisory, or acting supervisory role preferred; Experience with cash handling, payment processing, and/or budget-related responsibilities preferred; Strongly preferred: training and experience using the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) GEM system; Experience with data entry and general office equipment preferred; Experience working in a government, DMV, or public service environment preferred; Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred; Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job may be considered. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of general office practices, customer service principles, and cash handling procedures; Knowledge of Idaho DMV rules, regulations, and procedures preferred; Ability to learn and apply Idaho Transportation Department policies and procedures; Ability to operate computers and standard office equipment efficiently; Ability to maintain accurate records and reports; Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County officials, and the public. Work Environment & Physical Demands Work is performed in a standard office environment with frequent interaction with the public; Position may involve a high-volume workload and frequent interruptions; Requires the ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer; Frequent use of hands for typing, filing, and operating office equipment; Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds; Requires clear communication and the ability to exchange accurate information; May involve dealing with upset or frustrated customers; Regularly required to work outdoors in all weather conditions to inspect and verify vehicle identification numbers (VINs); Exposure to outdoor elements including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.
