Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented (FINS) Docket Clerk to join our Family in Need of Services court team for the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Court. In this vital role, you will serve as clerical and data entry docket clerk and manage and maintain the filing system for the FINS cases, as well as serve as clerical and administrative support to the FINS Officers and FINS Coordinator. Your will ensure timely and accurate scheduling of court hearings, case filings, updating of a specialized FINS database system, and legal documentation. Your energetic approach and organizational skills will help facilitate smooth courtroom operations and support the delivery of services for families in need. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the community by supporting the legal and court system's efficiency and integrity in helping our community youth and families. Responsibilities Maintain accurate and up-to-date docket records for FINS cases, including scheduling hearings, tracking case progress, and managing case files. and document management software. Perform accurate and timely data entry in the Supreme Court FINS-AP database system and the Court's case management system. Coordinate with attorneys, court personnel, and clients to schedule hearings, conferences, and other legal proceedings while adhering to procedural law requirements. Review legal documents for completeness and compliance with court rules; assist in filing documents as required and allowed. Handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and court policies. Support the preparation of legal documents including notices, summonses, and reports related to cases; draft correspondence as needed. Provide exceptional client communication by answering inquiries professionally via phone, email, or in person; assist clients in understanding scheduling procedures. Assist with general clerical and administrative duties such as answering phones with proper etiquette, organizing files, scheduling appointments, and supporting FINS Officers and FINS Coordinator with administrative support tasks. Experience High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency, and extensive experience in progressively responsible clerical duties of a legal nature, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Familiarity with procedural law related to juvenile or family court cases is preferred or clerical work in the field of social services is preferred. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment using project management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word processing), document review tools. Excellent organizational skills combined with attention to detail; ability to handle confidential information responsibly. Effective communication skills—both written and verbal—alongside professional phone etiquette are critical for success in this role.
