◄ Magistration Clerk-JP1-2 The Justice of the Peace Magistration Clerk and performs all duties required by the law to assist the Justice of the Peace in handling all Magistration matters before the court. The Magistration Clerk assures the accurate maintenance of all Magistration data entry and filing. While the Magistration Clerk is charged with handling the magistration duties, they are required to be cross trained in many areas of the court; civil, criminal and some administrative.

Specific Job Functions:

Prepares magistration forms for all parties on jail list Prepares Emergency Protective Orders, Ignition Interlock Device, 10 Panel and all other bond condition forms required Communicates with Taylor County Jail regarding required paperwork for each individual Enters bond information into the DPS Public Safety Report System after magistration Enters all arrested party information, charges and bond conditions into PSRS for all walk in magistrations throughout the day Processes EPOs; Data entry into Odyssey and state reporting system, issues victim letters to parties and protected addresses, shares EPO information with DPS, APD, TCSO and any other involved agency. Notifies probation of any Ignition Interlock Order that is issued. Assures that all the necessary and proper paperwork, documents, etc. are filed with each case. Processes non-compliance requests for bond conditions, sets show cause hearings and sends out notices for hearings Issuance of Insufficient Bond Warrants for non-compliance Maintains monthly data from magistrations for reporting purposes Prepares, delivers, receives and processes mail and other correspondence sent to this court.

Basic Job Functions:

(all office staff) Knowledge of legal instruments as pertaining to Texas Justice Courts Knowledge of Texas Justice Courts procedures and legal documents Knowledge of how other county offices function or interact with this court Knowledge of basic accounting principles Knowledge of basic computer skills (ie. Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat) and data entry Ability to perform accurate detailed work with permanent records Ability to work quickly and accurately Ability to multi-task and prioritize while dealing with interruptions Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Ability to perform duties under high stress and deal with difficult people and situations Ability to answer a multi phone line system Ability to cross train in other areas of the office Ability to work well with co-workers and assist in other areas of the office as needed Ability to take all filings and give basic information about each type of case Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees and officials, attorneys, private businesses and the general public

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or GED, some college preferred. Must complete New Clerk School with Texas Justice Court Training Center within first year.

Minimum Experience:

2 years Clerical, preferably in court or legal setting.

Special Requirements:

Must be bondable and will be deputized by the Justice of the Peace. Must become a notary public and perform associated duties. Some travel will be expected 1-2 times a year for continuing education with the TJCTC.

Starting Salary:

$38,000 annually + benefits Benefits include: 100% county-paid employee medical and dental insurance, paid life and disability insurance, retirement, and paid vacation/sick time.
