Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications :
We are very proud of our Animal Care and Adoption Center (ACAC) which opened at 341 South Birdneck Road in December 2011. We are an open admission facility, meaning that we accept all animals. We work hard to reunite stray and lost animals with their owners. When that is not possible, we strive to place animals in their forever home. In some cases, we place animals with rescue or rehabilitation organizations. The Animal Care and Adoption Center is a fast-paced and challenging environment. It is not unusual to serve 100 shelter visitors per day engaged in various activities including processing incoming animals, animal adoptions, animal reclaims, and license purchases while simultaneously assisting with phone inquiries of an equal volume. The successful candidate will possess a strong affinity to assist customers with difficult situations, a desire to present the shelter as a resource for the community and possess and display enthusiasm for working with customers who are adopting a new pet. This position will perform a variety of responsible clerical work, serving as the primary customer contact in greeting and assisting shelter visitors; providing oral counseling to citizens in need of support for their pet; scheduling adoption, surrender, and veterinary appointments; performing filing and computer data entry; compiling data and preparing statistical reports; answering multi-line phone system; calculating and collect fees; preparing monetary deposits; completing required forms related to incoming/outgoing animals, including adoption paperwork; preparing flyers for marketing shelter animals; and distributing mail and managing email inboxes. The position also involves various duties on social media platforms such as posting adoption lists and responding to messages from citizens and may preform notary duties. Special Requirements:
All employees may be expected to work more hours than their normal scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Applicants responding to this posting will be considered for the existing Office Assistant II vacancy at the Animal Care and Adoption Center (ACAC) and will be considered for placement on an eligibility listing for employment consideration for any future Office Assistant II openings within the ACAC for the next six months (or until the list is depleted of acceptable candidates). Once hired, if a departmental need is identified this position may be moved by the Chief to another Police Department facility.
CJIS/VCIN/NCIC
certification is required, in addition to the successful completion of a background check, candidates must have U.S. citizenship or be a lawful resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization. Requires a passing score on a typing test of 40 wpm with 90% accuracy.
Hours:
The Office Assistant II position currently has shift times of 9:00 am to 5:30 pm with a 30-minute (unpaid) lunch break. The position works five days a week with two consecutive days off. Days off will be determined based on seniority and will most likely be weekdays, rather than the traditional Saturday/Sunday weekend.
