City of Vergennes, Vermont The City of Vergennes is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and public-service-minded City Clerk/Treasurer to lead the City's combined Clerk and Treasurer functions. This is a key administrative and financial position responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of City government, maintaining accurate public and financial records, administering elections, and providing responsive service to residents, taxpayers, voters, businesses, staff, elected officials, and members of the public. The City Clerk/Treasurer is responsible for a broad range of municipal clerk, treasurer, finance, records, and administrative duties. Core responsibilities include maintaining official City records, land records, vital records, licenses, permits, minutes, tax records, and election records; administering local elections; serving as Clerk of the Board of Civil Authority; assisting with City Council agendas, packets, minutes, postings, and official records; and providing professional customer service to the public. The position also performs and oversees major municipal finance functions, including tax billing and collection, sewer billing, cash receipts, banking, reconciliations, payroll and benefits administration, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grants, general ledger entries, investments, audit support, and related financial reporting. The Clerk/Treasurer supervises assigned administrative and finance staff and works closely with the City Manager, City Council, auditors, vendors, state agencies, and other municipal partners. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in municipal government, finance, accounting, records management, elections, payroll, billing, office administration, or a related field. The successful candidate should be comfortable managing complex deadlines, maintaining confidential and public records, using financial and records management systems, improving office procedures, and communicating clearly and professionally with a wide range of people. Experience with Vermont municipal government, NEMRC or similar municipal accounting software, land records systems such as Kofile, tax and utility billing, grant tracking, audit preparation, and staff supervision is preferred. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and excellent municipal benefits.
Anticipated salary range:
$90,000 to $105,000 , depending on qualifications and experience. The City of Vergennes is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
