BASIC FUNCTIONS
The Senate Special Services Supervisor supports the Senate in its daily transportation and logistical operations. The Special Services Supervisor is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of the Special Services staff, Member transportation services, the Capitol and district vehicle pool program, and insurance claims coordination. The Supervisor additionally liaises with the Senate Facilities, Accounting, and Human Resources Departments, Member offices, and Department of General Services on day-to-day logistics and operations.
DUTIES:
The Special Services Supervisor is responsible to provide strong leadership and manage day-to-day operations, including delegating work to the Assistant Supervisor and staff. The Supervisor is responsible for making hiring recommendations, managing staff, training new staff, managing employee attendance and performance, and serving as principal liaison with Human Resources on personnel matters. The Supervisor is responsible for assessing transportation and logistics needs and, in coordination with the Assistant Supervisor, creating and managing the employee work assignment schedule and the Member transportation schedule. Additionally, the Supervisor coordinates building and facility-related activities and projects with other Capitol Building entities; coordinates staffing support for Member office moves with the Senate Facilties Department; establishes effective communication lines between the Special Services Department and Member offices and manages personnel issues. The Supervisor is also responsible for managing fleet gas card and FasTrak accounts, tracking vehicle mileage, maintaining the Senate garage parking list, and monitoring Senate Fleet cell phones. Followng an accident, the Supervisor must engage appropriate stakeholders, process necessary reports and forms, and coordinate vehicle repairs as necessary. As the fleet inventory manager, the Supervisor must ensure that Senate vehicles are maintained, fueled and repaired as necessary.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Comparable Senate experience, including fleet managment is prefered. Prefer candidates have experience supervising employees and possess strong leadership skills. High School Diploma or an acceptable General Educational Development (GED) credential is required. Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree is a plus. Applicants must possess a valid California Driver's License, have a clean driving record and current automobile insurance. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must pass a background check; criminal history will be evaluated as permitted by law and a prior felony conviction may affect eligibility. Competitive candidates will demonstrate experience with multi-tasking, time management, ability to prioritize tasks in a high workload and fast-paced environment, and ability to delegate duties efficiently. Successful candidates will be customer-service oriented and have substantial familiarity with the legislative calendar. Must be able to work independently and exercise sound judgment. The Supervisor may need to assist with Member office moves and must be able to bend, lift, reach, twist, squat, crawl and kneel to complete certain tasks. Must be able to lift and carry a variety of items weighing up to 55 pounds. Must be available to work rotating shifts and extended hours; to travel statewide on short notice; have a high level of integrity, workplace safety consciousness, demonstrated reliability and flexibility; have a working knowledge of tools, basic carpentry, and furniture assembly; and be proficient in MS Word and Excel. LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE
This position is located in Sacramento, CA. Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Seniority and significant experience is required to reach the higher end of the salary range. Applications will be accepted until position is filled.
