C-27 Responsible Managing Officer (RMO) Better Than Pavers | East Bay, CA | Mostly Remote | Very Flexible Schedule The Opportunity Better Than Pavers is seeking an experienced California C-27 Landscaping Contractor to join our growing company as a Responsible Managing Officer (RMO) and 20% equity owner. This is a unique opportunity for an established contractor who wants to participate in the growth of a new outdoor-living company. The initial arrangement is expected to last approximately 3-6 months, with the possibility of extension. As the company grows, there may also be an opportunity to transition into a larger full-time position with separately negotiated responsibilities, title, and compensation. Compensation The position includes a 20% ownership interest in the company for purposes of the agreed RMO/ownership structure, subject to the company's governing documents and final written agreement. Compensation is based on the 20% ownership interest, meaning you will be entitled to 20% of company profits that are distributed to owners. This is not 20% ownership interest plus an additional 20% profit share. The salary range shown on this listing is an educated projection and is not guaranteed compensation. Earnings will depend on company profitability and distributions to owners. The RMO's compensation is tied to their 20% ownership interest - it is not a salary plus an additional 20% of profits. What You'll Do As our C-27 Responsible Managing Officer, you'll provide genuine oversight of the company's licensed construction operations and serve as the company's C-27 qualifying individual.

Responsibilities will include:

Participate in a brief weekly operations meeting with the owner Review relevant operations and project communications Provide technical and administrative guidance when necessary Monitor construction operations and company procedures within the C-27 classification Be reasonably available to management when licensing, workmanship, compliance, or construction questions require RMO involvement Exercise the supervision and control required of a California CSLB qualifying individual Assist in maintaining compliant construction practices as the company grows Our goal is to make the oversight process organized, transparent, and efficient. Day-to-day administrative and sales responsibilities will remain with the company's operating team. Schedule & Location This is a flexible, primarily remote position serving an East Bay construction company. There is no traditional daily office schedule. Most routine involvement can be handled through email, phone/video meetings, and our internal operations systems. Occasional in-person involvement or project-site review may be necessary when appropriate to fulfill the responsibilities of the RMO. Who We're Looking For The ideal candidate: Holds an active California C-27 Landscaping Contractor classification in good standing Has substantial landscaping experience Understands the responsibilities associated with serving as a CSLB qualifying individual Is comfortable reviewing operations and providing construction guidance Communicates reliably and professionally Is interested in a straightforward, flexible business relationship May currently operate or qualify another contracting business, provided they are legally eligible to also qualify Better Than Pavers Prior experience serving as an RMO or qualifying individual is a plus, but not required.
