DEFINITION
Under close supervision, performs a variety of basic clerical duties at a school site or District office site.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is an entry level position characterized by assisting other secretarial or clerical employees.OCCUPATIONAL GROUP

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Performs a variety of clerical work including typing of letters, memoranda, lists, tests, or other material from written directions or examples. (E) 2. Files and sorts a wide variety of documents/materials. (E) 3. Assists office visitors by providing information on routine procedural questions; answers the telephone. 4. Operates general office machines to include keyboards. 5. Posts information on bulletin boards; helps distribute and sort incoming mail. (E) 6. Makes routine mathematical calculations. 7. With supervision, may assist in the nurse's office in the absence of the Health Technician and/or School Nurse. (E) 8. Provides vacation and temporary relief as required. 9. Performs other related duties as assigned. (E) = Essential FunctionsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of:
- Filing systems, telephone techniques;
- Basic computer applications;
- English usage, spelling, grammar, and math.
Ability to:
- Communicate verbally and in writing;

- Operate a keyboard and typewriter at 40 wpm;
- Learn, organize, prioritize and adapt;
- Apply rules, regulations and policies;

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Education equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade. A combination of training and experience may be substituted for formal education.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- A school office or district office environment;
- Considerable distraction from office activities;
- May work under timelines;
- Subject to frequent interruptions and contact with students, parents and others.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
- Bending at the waist and reaching to retrieve and maintain files and records;
- Carrying, pushing, pulling or lifting light equipment and supplies;
- Climbing, occasional use of step ladders;
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment;
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone;
- Kneeling, crouching or stooping;
- Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally;
- Visual ability to read, prepare/process documents and to monitor office and student activities;
- Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time;

- Exposure to contact with blood or body fluids and potential exposure to communicable diseases;
- Extended viewing of computer monitor;

- Two (2) letters of recommendation
- must be signed and dated within the last 24 months. Only wet signatures and e-signatures will be accepted; names typed out in a stylized font will not be accepted as a signature. Letters from relatives are not acceptable.
- Typing certificate, minimum typing speed of 40 net/corrected wpm. (See requirements listed.)
- Proof of education equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.
REQUIREMENTS
Education equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade. A combination of training and experience may be substituted for formal education. No experience required. Submit with the application a typing certificate for 40 net/corrected words per minute, typed during a 5-minute timed test from an accredited school or agency. Pass the District Clerical Test and any combination of written, oral, and performance tests which may be administered to secure the best qualified applicants. The Division of Human Resources requires a typing certificate from an accredited school or agency, dated no earlier than twenty-four (24) months before the opening date listed on the job posting on EdJoin. The typing certificate must be attached to the EdJoin application. Human Resources will not accept online certificates or e-mailed test results from typing websites. Typing test requirements and a partial list of local agencies that provide typing certificates can be accessed using the link: "Typing Test Requirements & Locations (Updated 05.2020)". The typing certificate must contain the following information:- Agency's official emblem
- Name of applicant
- Score identified as net or corrected words per minute typed during a five (5) minute timed test
- Date of certificate
- Signature of person certifying the certificate
