Their responsibilities are a mix of administrative work, communication, and compliance with school policies. Here's what the job typically involves: Daily attendance tracking They record student attendance each day, making sure absences, tardies, and early dismissals are entered correctly into the school's system. This often includes verifying notes or excuses from parents or guardians. Monitoring and reporting Attendance clerks keep an eye on patterns like frequent absences or truancy. They generate reports for administrators, counselors, or district offices and may flag students who need intervention. Communication with families They contact parents or guardians when students are absent without notice, confirm reasons for absences, and sometimes send automated or manual notifications about attendance issues. Maintaining records They organize and update student attendance files, ensuring records are accurate and compliant with school district policies and state regulations. Supporting school administration Clerks often assist assistant principals or attendance officers by preparing documentation for meetings, hearings, or interventions related to truancy. Processing paperwork They handle absence notes, medical documentation, and early release requests, making sure everything is properly logged and filed.
