Job Description
City of Wendell Administrative Assistant -
City Clerk's Office FLSA Designation:
Non-exempt Part-time position - 10-15 hours per week; Non-benefited position Salary range $17.00 per hour General Statement of Duties- Assists Mayor with newsletter, desk work, and event planning.
- Receives payments for utility billings, licenses, and permits;
- Answers city phones and provides information and assistance to the public by answering questions, directing inquiries to the appropriate person, or recording and transmitting messages to other city staff or city officials;
- Understands and adheres to internal control procedures;
- Ability to maintain and secure confidential information;
- Maintains cooperative and collaborative working relationships with city staff, elected officials, and community leaders;
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with city policies, procedures, and safety practices. Other Duties and Responsibilities
- May be required to work other than regularly scheduled work hours;
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of:
- Correct spelling, grammar usage, and punctuation usage;
- Effective communication skills;
- Standard office equipment, computing devices, and software.
Ability to:
- Deal tactfully and diplomatically with citizens and the general public;
- Read, comprehend, and follow instructions; Acceptable Experience and Training
- High school diploma or GED equivalency preferred;
- Some experience in an office environment preferred; Special Qualifications
- Must be able to successfully pass background check processes including reference checks and criminal history checks; -ability to speak Spanish preferred
- Local travel is occasionally required. Must hold a valid driver's license and have a safe driving record. Essential Physical Abilities
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person, and to comprehend written and oral instructions;
- Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written instructions and job-related materials; prepare reports as required; and operate office equipment;
- Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate all work-associated equipment.
