Records Clerk / Classification Clerk New Castle Correctional Facility -
New Castle, Indiana Pay:
$15.76 per hour
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week
Hours:
7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Once training is complete, the employee may choose from available approved schedule options within the department. Position Overview This position is officially titled Classification Clerk but functions as a Records Clerk within New Castle Correctional Facility. The Records Clerk is responsible for maintaining, reviewing, and processing confidential offender records while supporting the daily operation of the facility's records department. Accuracy, organization, discretion, and confidentiality are essential in this role. This position works inside a secure, locked records office. Offenders do not have access to the records room. Key Responsibilities Maintain files for incoming offenders Maintain accurate paper and computerized records Perform data entry and update offender information Review and process documents related to offender transfers and releases Audit records to ensure accuracy and compliance with facility policies Prepare and submit required reports Organize, file, and retrieve confidential documents Maintain control of department equipment and supplies Immediately report missing or damaged equipment or materials Follow all facility rules, policies, special orders, and security procedures Maintain strict confidentiality at all times Training and Correctional Environment Orientation All new hires complete approximately five weeks of paid training, including classroom instruction, hands-on personal protection class, facility orientation, and on-the-job training.
Training covers:
Working safely and professionally in a correctional environment Personal protection instruction Facility rules and security procedures Indiana Department of Correction policies and procedures Professional boundaries and expectations Job-specific duties and daily department operations Training hours are Monday-Friday and will vary between 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. , depending on the portion of training being completed. Employees are fully trained on facility expectations and job responsibilities before working independently. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED General clerical and computer aptitude Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to accurately maintain confidential records Ability to follow moderately complex written and verbal instructions Strong attention to detail Ability to interact professionally with staff, members of the public, and offenders Ability to work inside a correctional facility Preferred Qualifications At least one year of clerical, administrative, data-entry, or records-management experience Experience using word programs and basic computer software Experience maintaining confidential files or records Familiarity with basic bookkeeping practices and professional business communication Benefits Medical, dental, vision, and supplemental insurance eligibility after 90 days Retirement plan with a 5% annual employer match 9 paid holidays, eligible from the first day of employment $10,000 employer-paid term life insurance Paid Training Paid Time Off 6 days after 6 months of employment during the first year 16 days annually after 1 year 21 days annually after 5 years 25 days annually after 10 years About Your Employer and Worksite This is a permanent, full-time W-2 position with Action Staffing . The selected employee will work on-site at New Castle Correctional Facility as an Action Staffing contractor. Action Staffing is a locally owned, WBE member, full-service staffing agency established in 1985, with three Indiana locations. Action Staffing has proudly partnered with The GEO Group since 2005. About the Facility New Castle Correctional Facility is a state-owned, all-male correctional facility managed by The GEO Group. The facility includes multiple housing units and departments that work together to support daily operations, programming, records, and offender services. This position is located inside the facility but works in a secure, locked records office. Offenders do not have access to the records room. Additional Employment Requirements Must successfully pass a criminal background check Must successfully pass a pre-employment urine drug screen Must complete a pre-employment tuberculosis screening, which is performed at the facility during training Cell phones, smartwatches, and other smart devices are not permitted inside the facility and must be left in the employee's vehicle Employees will not have access to their cell phones during the workday except when permitted to return to their vehicle during designated breaks. A facility contact method is available so employees can be reached in the event of an emergency. Any offer of employment is contingent upon the candidate successfully completing all required pre-employment screening and clearance requirements.
