We seek a highly skilled individual who understands how to leverage financial resources to maximize student achievement. SPS is a PK-8 school district serving approximately 1,500 students in three elementary schools and one middle school. SBRSD enrolls almost 900 students from the towns of Berkley and Somerset at Somerset Berkley Regional High School. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or Assistant Superintendent of Business and Finance (depending on qualifications and licensure) will join an administrative team prioritizing collaboration, innovation, and a strong commitment to opportunity, equity, and excellence for all students, faculty, and staff.

Performance ResponsibilitiesBudget Development and MonitoringWorks directly with the Superintendent to create, establish, present, and monitor fiscal year budgets for both the Somerset Public Schools and the Somerset Berkley Regional School District.

Works with the Superintendent to develop long-range financial plans for both school districts.

Submits quarterly projections to both School Committees or more frequent reports as requested.

Submits budget transfers between general ledger lines in a timely manner.

Creates and delivers presentations, including preliminary budget presentations, public hearings, and Town Meeting presentations when needed for both Districts.

Personnel and Contract AdministrationActs as the Superintendent's designee in individual employment contract negotiations for school and district administrators; conducts negotiations within fiscal parameters established by the Superintendent and presents finalized contracts to the Superintendent for approval.

Prepares financial analysis in support of collective bargaining efforts.

Participates in collective bargaining and contract negotiations.

Purchasing and PayablesSupervises, monitors, and approves all requisitions for purchases through various departments.

Ensures expenditures are within budget and ensures controls are in place to monitor budget lines.

Supervises the Accounts Payable Clerk.

PayrollSupervises the Payroll Clerk on a day-to-day basis.

Ensures payroll information is correct and projections for labor expenditure lines are expended as planned.

Supervises electronic time and attendance software in conjunction with the Human Resources Coordinator.

Grants ReportingOversees financial tracking of Federal and State grants.

Submits monthly claim reimbursements based on expenditures posted.

Submits financial reports to DESE.Rolls grant balances and budgets to the subsequent fiscal year for expenditures.

Monitors budget lines and submits amendments when necessary.

Enters budget lines into the accounting system and closes out grants when depleted.

Food ServiceSupervises the contracted Director of Food Service.

Responsible for monthly claim reporting and submission of reimbursements.

Responsible for monitoring food service financial operations.

Supervises Food Service Free/Reduced Application processing.

Responsible for application verification testing of applications and annual Accuclaim reporting.

Responsible for overseeing annual audits of the Food Service program, including Procurement Review and Administrative Reviews.

Responsible for uploading documentation to DESE for the food service program at the beginning of each fiscal year.

TransportationWorks with the Director of Special Education to supervise the Transportation Coordinator and overall operations of the special education in-district transportation program.

Coordinates with the regular education transportation vendor to oversee contract compliance, service delivery, and operational needs. Responsible for securing funding for vehicle purchases and maintenance.

Financial Reports and AuditsManages user accounts in the financial software system.

Responsible for submitting annual End-of-Year Financial Reports to DESE.Responsible for uploading annual Department of Revenue document reports for the Somerset Berkley Regional School District.

Responsible for ensuring the annual SBRSD Excess and Deficiency is certified.

Works directly with auditors for both Districts to ensure annual audits are completed and submits information to auditors when necessary.

ProcurementResponsible for presenting, publishing, and executing all procurement documentation, including but not limited to contracted services, food service management, transportation, and capital projects.

Maintenance and Capital ProjectsSupervises the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.

Budgets for capital maintenance projects and submits Annual Town Meeting articles.

Creates and updates Capital Improvement and Capital Maintenance Plans.

Serves as a member of the Somerset Middle School Building Committee, while in existence, and obtains MCPPO Certification.

Payment Processing & SystemsSupervises online registrations through Family ID, School Store, MySchoolBucks, and other digital payment platforms for online payments.

Works with vendors to establish new collection models and products to be advertised.

Serves as the System Administrator for web-based software, including Infinite Visions, Harper's Payroll, and MySchoolBucks.

Other ResponsibilitiesActs as liaison to municipal agencies (Town Treasurer/Accountant).Attends School Committee meetings and other meetings when appropriate.

Maintains a cooperative relationship and open communication with those holding similar positions in other districts.

Performs such other related assignments as may be deemed necessary by the Superintendent of Schools.
